OVF June Newsletter
I like June because of the long hours of daylight. Don’t you? It’s so great to be outside in the yard or on the patio enjoying summer evenings. June is a very busy month for the design industry. Many of us travel to The Mart in Chicago to attend NeoCon, the hub for the commercial design community. I did not attend this year, but I have the inside scoop on some new exciting products. NeoCon is not the only place where new flooring products are introduced. OVF has also been in development of a new product.?Now for the big reveal!
Ohio Valley Flooring is Proud to Introduce “PERFECT 10”, Our New 5.0 mm Thick Loose Lay LVT Collection!
As you may already know, the advantage of working with a distributor partner such as OVF is the fact that distributors offer products from many different manufacturers. Occasionally I’ve been asked when I’m visiting design studios, “Do you have anything in a 5.0 mm thick LVT?” I’ve had to admit, “Not much” in times past. But now OVF has a terrific collection all our own. I am now excited to show you... Our “Perfect 10”.
Why Perfect 10 you ask? The definition: A Perfect 10 is a person or thing that is of the highest possible quality or performs at the highest possible caliper. Though new to OVF, this product’s development goes back several years. Here are the highlights of this collection which has been created with all the features and benefits you look for in a 5.0 mm LVT:

Design Decisions and Discussions: What Considerations Should a Specification Team Make When Deciding on One Manufacturer's Range of Options Over Another’s? It Should Not Be Just Visuals or Price!
Floorcovering needs in any project can be complicated. To provide the best value to the owner, many factors should be considered. I’ve seen some very impressive installations in my time. But when details are not addressed at the beginning, clients can become frustrated and inconvenienced. One example is maintenance of the product. Will the manufacturer offer guidance or demonstration on the maintenance if requested? Flooring is a significant investment for the owner and to preserve its usefulness over the log term, the manufacturer’s guidelines should be observed. Some flooring types have very specific requirements.
Healthcare interiors are particularly challenging for floorcoverings.?This is where tremendous value can be added by selecting a product from a manufacturer who offers dedicated expert technical support. When your manufacturer’s representative is readily available for questions, pre-installation meetings, and input regarding substrate surface preparation and maintenance, the best outcome is assured.
Above: See those lines indented in this sheet vinyl installation? This is a result of the space being delivered to the owner before the adhesive has had time to cure and a cart or wheeled object was allowed on the surface. This could have been prevented by prohibiting any traffic on the floor for the prescribed length of time.
Technical support adds incredible value to a project and yet is so often overlooked when specification decisions are being made.
So whenever you are specifying significant quantities of resilient (rubber, vinyl, or linoleum) flooring, ask your product rep exactly what technical support will be available to the project team. Will they be willing to attend site visits when challenges occur throughout the installation? Remember, there is more to the price and value of a product than just the flooring material itself!
Your projects’ success is our goal at Ohio Valley Flooring!

Every Project Needs It…. But How Do We Select What’s Best?...Demystifying Resilient Cove Base.
I have recently been asked. What are the differences in cove base types? How should we decide what’s best in a project? We’ll, it depends on your project’s goals. There are actually 3 types of resilient wall base. Each of them meet ASTM-F-1861 requirements and perform equally well once installed but there are subtle differences in each type.
Johnsonite markets its TS rubber under the name Baseworks?. Both TS Rubber and TP rubber are synthetic in its composition. That is, there is no natural rubber in the formula. Examine the goals and desired outcomes of your project. Is your priority keep the budget as trim as possible? Type TV is the least expensive. Do you prefer a base that is more matte in appearance? TS will be your top choice. However, keep in mind that TS is actually the more expensive of the three and the color palette is slightly more limited. Also, Type TS is more desirable for LEED compliant projects as it is Cradle to Cradle Certified?.?Do you like having the most options in colors, sizes and styles? If yes, TP will be your preference and is priced in the mid-range. Johnsonite refers to Type TP as “Duracove”, or “DC” for short. Most of the Johnsonite styles you know and love are Type TP: Perceptions, “Recess style”, Tightlock, and of course the popular Millworks resilient base.
All three types of Johnsonite resilient wall base are FloorScore? Certified and have equal warranty. You can find all the sustainability information for each type of product at https://tarkett.ecomedes.com/.
Fun Fact: Did you know that Mandalay profile in Millworks was originally developed for use by the Mandalay BayHotel in Las Vegas. True!
