Life can be extremely overwhelming at times.?
Life for A LOT of people right now is overwhelming.?
Some good. Some bad.
When you're feeling overworked, overwhelmed, and as if life is a tornado spiraling around you, what do you do??
Physiologically, humans tend to react in one of two ways - fight or freeze.?
“Fight” would look like pushing forward harder. We may even see it as hustle culture. It certainly has its place, but if overdone, it can make the situation worse.?
“Freeze” would look like shutting down. The overwhelm is so consuming that your mind and body do not know what to do, so you do nothing.
So how do we bring ourselves back down from the spiral so that we can have the day, the moment, the experience, and the life that we want?
Have you ever heard someone say - “go touch grass” - as an insult? They’re kind of onto something.
One of the best things you can do when you are utterly overwhelmed and struggling to find your next move is to:
Usually, I’ll also go find my favorite Oak tree and touch her trunk.?
Truth be told, I have two favorite Oaks, but don’t tell the other one!
This is called grounding and the science is just starting to touch on its incredible benefits.
What’s the next step?
So many of us are so busy chasing a career, chasing a relationship, and chasing the next thing that's gonna happen in life. So much so that we forget to enjoy the moment.?
Sometimes we're so busy chasing something that we get completely off of our path and even forget where we wanted to go.?
We have to take a step back. We have to reevaluate.?
If you're so busy chasing all these different things that are happening in your life and you lose sight of that one thing - the one thing that you really wanted or loved that started you on the chase in the first place - you've lost your way.
But it doesn't mean that all is lost.?
You can change your life at any point.
You just have to remind yourself of your one thing. The thing that keeps you going.?
Then, you can restart your path.?
You may have to backtrack slightly, and that’s okay.
With every backtrack and every path that you go down - even if not the “right” one - you learn something that may prove crucial down the line.
You can ask yourself:
There's always something.?
If you're here, if you woke up this morning, if you're reading this, that means that you're breathing.
That means that you have another day on this beautiful planet.?
You have another day to find your one thing and experience it.?
And when you give yourself that gift of those moments, then all the moments after that are going to be better because you're bringing back that unique authentic self of who you really are.?
So tell me, what’s your one thing?
