Overwhelmed? You need a QUICK WIN

Overwhelmed? You need a QUICK WIN

On Friday I built up an actual IKEA sofa. Alone.

I didn't plan to and my track record with DIY and whatnot would never have written it in the stars. The truth is, things from IKEA and frankly, anything to do with lots of small pieces make my brain fizz a bit and send me into Overwhelm.

From there, things go down hill. Overwhelm never tells us to just start which is the very obvious thing to do.

Overwhelm makes us procrastinate - do almost anything other than open the box and take out the little bag of screws and washers and instructions and lay everything out which, bizarrely - AND WE KNOW THIS BUT STILL DON'T JUST DO IT - is the first and most necessary start.

Anyway, on Friday, I decided to see how far I could go with it. I told myself that this could be as far as laying everything out to build it up with my husband at a later time, but I was just going to start.

So I started. I took a look at the very first page of the instructions and saw that IKEA are actual Mindset Ninjas on top of everything else that they are.

The very first page of the instructions had me finish the lid of a seat in about 5 minutes. Just screwing in 8 small things and it was DONE ?.

IKEA had given me a QUICK WIN.

With this done and put to the side, I couldn't resist going just one page ahead, then another, then another...

What happened in my mind - and the Quick Win was hugely instrumental in this - was I moved from overwhelm into possibility.

IKEA know this is what an Overwhelmed mind needs. They know that those flat packs make some of us break out in hives and they know that if someone like me has made her way to page one of the instructions, what she needs there is QUICK WIN - rush of dopamine to the head that walks me over the bridge from 'This is impossible' to  'Look at me, I'm doing this!', in my mind.

What happens when we move out of Overwhelm into possibility is that the action that comes next has a momentum that just doesn't exist when we're spinning our wheels in  Overwhelm.

I finished up just in time for my oldest to plop down into when he finished up with his online lessons, and I don't have to tell you that my husband who just got a free pass from spending his Saturday morning building up an IKEA sofa was also pretty pleased.

Where are you Overwhelmed?

What you need is a QUICK WIN ?

It needs to be actionable in less than half an hour and give you a feeling of traction WITHOUT a huge - clear your calendars, push up your sleeves, take a deep breath and write off the next 5 hours of your life - kind of lead in that will leave you exhausted before even starting.

Think: Quick and easy.

So many of the women I work with are overwhelmed by Business Development. They know it's something they should be doing more of but it never feels like the right time to start. If this is you, what you need is a QUICK WIN. That's why I prepared this free guide - Business Development Quick Start Guide which will give you a plan for the next 3 months and is set up to get a call in the books today.

Clear just 30 minutes in your calendar to do this TODAY, and download the quick start guide here.
