AI is arguably the most overused word these days. We humans tend to think we know something fully when we have a very minimal understanding of it. This is called the Dunning-Kruger effect, which is very evident in the case of AI overuse and abuse.
Understanding the underlying phenomena of AI is the key to combatting its overuse and abuse. The more we learn about the system, the better equipped we are to use it with a critical mindset, leading to long-term benefits.
At the heart of AI lies mathematics, a language of the universe. To truly understand AI, we must be willing to put in the hard work over an extended period to grasp its mathematical underpinnings.
To communicate the concepts to a broader audience, scientists abstract the core concepts, underpinned by mathematics, into more digestible forms, such as intuitive and relatable words.
In the next few Knowledge Nuggets, we will explore words such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, and much more. Once we grasp these concepts, we will share a glimpse into the deepest mathematical cores of AI.
The fun begins! Stay tuned; happy Saturday!
