OPIC was founded in 1971 as an entity of the US Gov’t with a corporate figure structure, and governed by a Board of Directors and top executives appointed by the President. Nonetheless, it is a self-sustaining enterprise that synergizes foreign US policy as a way to promote the US economy abroad in a very productive way.
OPIC is part of the Task Force that helps US businesses achieve results in emerging markets, guarantees financing, provides political risk insurance, and supports private equity investments abroad.
The Overseas Private Investment Corporation has supported more than $200B of investments in over 4K projects, and achieved $75B in US exports, and supported in excess of 277K American jobs.
In a sense, OPIC harnesses US foreign policy objectives, US Businesses (including small businesses) interests, and creates opportunities in marginalized areas of the world. Hence, making it a better place for all, and growing our American posture as leader in Economic Empowerment.
