Recap: PROCURECON EUROPE- September 17th-19th, Barcelona

Susan Walsh had THE most amazing time at ProcureCon Europe Series in Barcelona, to celebrate their 25 Year Anniversary.

Over the week Susan:

? Gave out 50+ Little Susan s

? Hosted a roundtable discussing common data problems

? Moderated the Tech and Digital Innovations track

? Moderated a panel on “How can we redefine procurement as an appealing career choice while proactively emphasising talent attraction to effectively address future talent and labour shortages?”

? Took part in a debate where she had to argue that AI is NOT overhyped!! Susan loved seeing such an even split of men and women at a women in procurement talk. We cannot do this without men, it takes all of us to change.

A truly wonderful event hosted by amazing people.

What makes a bad taxonomy?

We often talk about what makes a good taxonomy, but rarely talk about what makes a BAD taxonomy.

From the work we do here at TCG, we can tell you the not so good things we see are:

?? it doesn't fit the needs of the business and items are shoehorned into the wrong classification

?? it's inconsistent in formatting, i.e. some categories have detail and others don't

?? there are multiple languages which could create duplicate items (or different terminology for the same thing)

?? it's irrelevant and there are too many options that will never be used or could be misused/misclassified

?? there are too many acronyms, people might not understand what they mean

?? use of punctuation - dashes and dots can create multiple versions of the same items

These are just a few of the things we see in spend taxonomies, what else would you add?
