Overload of Virtual Information ~ Make It Meaningful
"Have faith in the power of your own mind and perspective of information received, allow positivity to reveal beauty and meaning in all things." dg
We are all aware that we have more access than ever to information due to the magnificent evolution of technology and the power of quick searching through Google and other platforms. For many its overwhelming or often stated as a handicap to authentic critical thinking and our natural thought process. Remember the saying "use your brain and not your behind," my dad used to say it often. Meaning think and don't be lazy! Well, now on my behind is where I spend a decent amount of time stimulating my brain. Sorry dad... you have been away for while; times have changed, however I still take the meaning to heart. From my perspective its all about how you use information. I never thought I would say this, but virtual learning has become most meaningful in my world.
Professional researchers work through synthesizing knowledge which means making interpretive meaning out of information. As consumers, teachers, professionals, parents and as people and participants in this world we must make use of the plethora of information charging our minds daily.
Virtual information and Social media are a beast and I mean this in a good way. I double dare you to count the times you pick up your phone and touch a Search Engine, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, Blogs or Instagram in a day or even an hour! They are now 21st Century news platforms and virtual stops in exposing: more personal, intellectual, entertainment, historical, community, national and international information than ever. I must inject I do not approve of the tremendous amount of trash being shared online and on air, its more than disgusting is disappointing. I'll add, I aim to inspire using the time you are online purposefully and to spend more intentional time connecting in person and in peace with nature and our most beautiful world. Over time I have learned to be strategic in my attention to online information, thus avoiding colossal perversion, negativity and just plain asinine content that may pop up.
My point is instead of silently overwhelming your mind with posts, reports, and updates etc., I encourage you to shift the massive information into meaning. Stop disrespecting media and use it as an opportunity to ignite your own intentional thoughts, opinions, and most important positive action. Perhaps change your thinking from gaining immediate information to considering it as research. Information gained consciously can be put to use during the most spontaneous and important moments. Critical thinking defined by The Critical Thinking Community (an online community) is the "awakening of intellect." I believe critical thinking requires research and research requires information, which when translated to meaning just may ignite an awakening within.
By paying more attention to the information filtering through your eyes each moment virtually or live, the monstrous information has the opportunity to transition into meaning and meaning into valued worth in every area of your life personally and professionally.
