Overcoming Rejection

I work with a lot of salespeople, so the topic of rejection is big. Spending a big part of your day being hung up and being told no, is not fun.? Unless you prepare yourself for it.
While salespeople have their share of rejection, nobody is immune from it.? Starting at an early age we hear, No!, more times than we hear our name.
As we get older, we hear no and get rejected when we’re not good enough to make the team or get the promotions and jobs we think we should get.
Sylvester Stallone said,
“I take rejection as someone blowing a bugle in my ear to wake me up and get going, rather than retreat.”
The first thing to understand about rejection is you have no idea what the person who is rejecting you is going through.
Did they just have a fight with their spouse?? Did they just get chewed out by their boss?? Did they have a tragic loss??
It is never about you. Rejection does not determine your self-worth. As Stallone said, it may just be a wake-up call. Or it may be constructive feedback that can help you. Either way, we need to detach ourselves from the outcome, if we’re to stay motivated and succeed at whatever we’re going after. And we do that by building our resilience. This means:
So, here’s your Action Item and Mission, should you decide to accept it:?
Have you been rejected, passed over or flat out told, No?
It’s time to change our thinking. No often means, not yet.
Pause. Reflect. And then use that as just another piece of information that will make YOU stronger, so the next rejection (which will come) doesn’t even phase you.
I like to say,
“What you think of me is none of my business.”?
You got this!
