Overcoming Procrastination: 5 Proven Steps That Will Help You Get Things Done Effortlessly

Laziness may not always be the factoring cause of procrastination, it could be your approach to work or the fear of consistency that kills your productivity.

I wouldn’t go through the rigors of explaining procrastination to you, if you don’t know what procrastination is then this article is not for you.

If you should search inward deeply, you’ll realize that the reason you procrastinate is not that you’re lazy, nor because you lack sufficient knowledge of what to do.

You simply lack the willpower to conquer the fear inside of you.

Yes! “The fear”

The fear of failure, rejection, and objection, scares the shit out of you. To make matters worse, you’ve developed a fear of success, hard work, and consistency.

You fear the level of growth required for the next step you’re about to take, and you’re not sure if you’ll be able to finish if you start.

We have all been there, you’re not alone. Our environment, upbringing, and people around us, have played a major role in keeping us in our comfort zone in fear.

I tell you, if you will remove the doubt, pride, and arrogance and study deeply the steps I will highlight here, you’ll kiss goodbye to procrastination and say welcome to a new you equipped with a superior mind to think, and the lion's heart to take on the world and its never-ending challenges.

STEP #1-DEEP MENTAL ASSESSMENT

Though I’ve highlighted proven causes of procrastination from a broad perspective. But it’s not enough.

Take out time to do a deep mental assessment on why exactly you keep procrastinating despite the level of resources at your exposure.

In doing this mental exercise, you should be ready to tell yourself the bitter truth and stop living in self-denial.

Do you know that a deliberate and continuous effort of lying to yourself will destroy you faster than any other negative habit you possess?

Now whilst you carry out this mental exercise, ensure you don’t do it passively, get a pen and a jotter and begin to actively pen down anything that comes to mind, this will help you rewire your brain whilst you cross your T’s and dot your I’s.

STEP #2 FANTASIZE ABOUT THE OUTCOME

The fantasy you see is not a negative feature, it all depends on what you do with it and how you use it.

As much as I’m a fan of focusing on the process than the result, I know this wouldn’t apply to a majority, especially if you are still struggling with procrastination. So do this.

After your deep mental assessment, fantasize about how your life would be if only you didn’t procrastinate. Ask yourself this ultimate question.

WHAT WILL BE THE IDEAL SITUATION OF MY LIFE FROM ALL PERSPECTIVES IF ONLY I DON’T PROCRASTINATE?

STEP #3-DREAM BIG START SMALL

Don’t be scared to dream big, just understand that if you can break down those dreams into small chunks, you’ll be able to achieve them effortlessly.

Now according to your time frame, break down your dreams into yearly tasks, monthly tasks, weekly tasks, daily tasks, hourly tasks, and minutes tasks. With this done you’ll see that all you need do to achieve your goals and never procrastinate is a simple hourly or daily task, and if you succeed daily it will accumulate into a massive win.

STEP #4-MASTER YOUR MIND AND APPLY DEEP FOCUS

The first 3 steps will help you get your foot in the door, but this step #4 will equip you for long-term results.

It takes immense focus for a small beam of light from the sun to start a fire in the forest and burn the entire forest down. That’s exactly the kind of focus you need, “laser beam focus”

To achieve this you must master your mind. This means taking full control of your mind.

Feeding your mind with the right diet will help you master your mind whilst you build a strong mind ready to conquer the world.

There are multiple ways to feed the mind, but the ultimate way to get it done is through reading.

Study and meditate on books that will help you smash your goals and conquer the world.

P. S. DON’T JUST READ ANY BOOK THAT COMES YOUR WAY, BECAUSE THE WRONG MESSAGE WILL DESTROY THE MIND.

STEP #5- GET SOMEONE RELIABLE TO HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE

There’s no better way to explain this other than using the exact words of one of my leaders (Abraham) which says “if it’s not consistent then it is not difficult”

Yes, it is not an easy ride to success. You must remain consistent with laser beam focus.

You could achieve this alone, but having someone to hold you accountable would ignite a special energy in you that will send you to another level of becoming a high performer.

That is it. Get an accountability partner and awaken the beast in your to scare away fear and procrastination.
