Overcoming Mindlessness

Overcoming Mindlessness

When we are in our comfort zones, and following a routine, we become slightly asleep. We function like robots, following a set of rules that seem habitual and closed-minded.

Being culturally fit and following a set of rules is a form of subtle slavery when you are the opposite of being mindful, which is called mindlessness.

We cannot afford to make sound decisions or push the creative envelope while inside the mind traps of nervousness, helplessness, or mindlessness.

Those who don't have a mind, borrow from others!

We often try to mould ourselves into someone else’s idea of success and think that what works for the other person(someone who is highly successful) would naturally work for us.

The problem with this approach is that we favour conventional wisdom, that is, stuff that is tried and tested, as we believe it is a safe option.

We want to use ready-made models of success to build our own success story, but find it difficult because each of us has a different path to walk.

Learned Helplessness

Consecutive negative events, negative feedback, and the imposition of the old formulas create learned helplessness in one’s mind. Right from school, our minds are programmed about what is considered right, and what is wrong, though the definitions keep changing.?

The choices in front of us

Human nature is to explore, exploit, or even abuse their current position, where the choices, good or bad, are present in front of them, partly due to the availability bias.

Many individuals compromise on their existing(bad) jobs rather than take the hard route to leave them and explore other opportunities in the market, which may seem like a vast abyss. They would rather stay put in the existing comfort zone where they are happy to stay mindless.

Superheroes look beyond the obvious, remain righteous, and take the hard path to explore their options, going beyond their current settings.

When there are a million people to advise us about what to do and what not to do, we don’t entertain the possibility that we can carve our own path and make our own decisions using self-awareness, investigative skills, and situational awareness.
