Overcoming FAILURE

Overcoming FAILURE

“Sometimes we must get hurt in order to grow, we must fail in order to know, Sometimes our vision clears only after our eyes are washed away with tears”—Unknown

We go all out to make ourselves a success. It is however the moments we fall down that make us value the moments we stand tall. If everything goes as per our plan, we become so cautious that we do not take risks. If we do take risks we will never understand the power of growth. Till we try a different task or a different method , we will never know what works. Normally when we set out on a task or a plan and things do not work according to that we call it a FAILURE. However when we step out of our comfort zone and see what our learnings can be, we are working towards growth.

I still remember the time I froze in front of the mike before my college mates when I stood there for a vote appeal and was booed off stage. Honestly if I had not got out of my comfort zone ( I was an of introvert,) I would have never evolved to be who I am today. I am so grateful to that moment that gave me such important perspectives on the word FAILURE.

An eternal optimist, I tried to see how I can look at FAILURE with a new lens and this is what emerged for me. Each of these letters were steps in the ladder of success. While failure first begins with acknowledgement. The emotions of Fear, Anxiety & Impatience do not allow us to be our best This is how I dissected FAILURE:

Fear: One of those emotions that stops the flow of thoughts & hijacks our action. Many a time it is the fear of failure that stops us from taking those important steps. All it takes is one step forward in the direction that we intend moving. The rest just falls in place. Overcoming this is the first step.

"Everything you want is on the other side of fear." Jack Canfield

Anxiety: This is what I see as what can be the outcome of emotional distress. Constantly reacting is more firefighting rather than actually planning to formulate steps to face the challenge. When there is a lack of control, we let go of objectivity. This leads to so many different challenges that may have risen mainly because of reacting on the spur of the moment.

“Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but from wanting to control it.”Kahlil Gibran

Impatience: The outcome of anxiety is impatience and this stops us from being ourselves. We are worried about the outcome and therefore end up getting frustrated when things move slowly. This in turn makes us commit more mistakes that extends the time we have to complete a task.

"Patience is the strength of the weak, impatience is the weakness of the strong." Immanuel Kent

Learning: This steps shifts the perspective towards embracing change. The potential to acquire knowledge is innate, and inherent in every individual. Learning is not only a skill but also a conscious choice one is capable of making. Personal responsibility plays a significant role in the process of continuous development.

"The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice." Brian Herbert

Understanding: All of us learn. However it is the willingness to understand that makes it actionable for us. Understanding is something that allows us to move with caution & step onto the road with awareness on how we need to evolve.Evolution with understanding , is a choice and we have a right to exercise it.

“Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.” J.K. Rowling

Risk:This is a step very few take and those are the ones who channelise their energies into accomplishing what they see as the way forward. The chances of losing out are huge too. It is therefore the willingness to lose that helps them move forward. The ability to be flexible, willingness to unlearn and face teh outcome is what makes risks worth it.

"He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life." Muhammad Ali

Energy :Energy is what all of us exude. There is a connection when two people meet. There are meetings with people that we are looking forward to and that which we do not enjoy. With every meeting however there is a clarity of who we are. There are many who bring out the right amount of energy out of us. This network of people is who we need to spend maximum time with. They become our network & bring out the best in us.

"The real energy occurs in each connection between two people that can bring about exponential returns." Tom Rath

Putting together my journey from the moment I forgot my speech to how I found my purpose by connecting to the #voiceinme

As I stood and faced the audience, I felt a choke in my voice,

To appeal and give a reason on why I am their best choice.

Little did I know the booing & the hooting will spur me to find

That the tears & the shame will be reminders of all that I need to bind

Who I can be, What I can do, how I can discover the real me?

The process had just begun, the practice was the only guarantee.

Life is a journey; we all are travellers moving onward unknowingly.

The stations we stop on, are designed to prepare us seemingly,

for every challenge that life is all set to throw at us, not knowing

our prep is our process, the chiseling is all we need in growing.

My journey, my purpose, my dream is all I could see unfold clearly

my pain, my shame was but a reason, for me to come out cheerily…

from the cocoon and proudly fly high with my colourful wings and erase my frown,

To reach my highest potential and be the catalyst to help others find their crown!

Would love to know how you would dissect FAILURE.
