Overcoming a Failure Mindset (or Persevering Through Failure)

Overcoming a Failure Mindset (or Persevering Through Failure)

It’s not in my DNA to call it quits. So when it comes to pushing through something, I’ve always found a way. But that doesn’t mean I haven't experienced failure. As entrepreneurs we’ve all had moments of standing at the edge, wondering if we’re going to fall; we have to come to terms with the inevitability of at least stumbling. But we also have moments where we nail it, and there is so much to learn from that jump between success and failure.?

Perseverance and grit are defined by an unwavering determination to reach a goal despite opposition. Obviously, there will be inflection points when you have to quit and move on if things aren't working out. Every situation is different, and each person has to make their own decision based on their unique circumstances. Gaining that insight is an experiential process. It is also a judgment that should be based on expertise and confidence, not fear.?

Over the years, I've kept some things in mind that have helped me through some of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make. These are actionable thoughts that could help cultivate a more growth-oriented mindset.

Be Curious By developing curiosity and constantly asking questions, you not only stay interested and involved, but also find the potential to open many doors that you never knew existed.

Know Mistakes Will Be Made The takeaway is not that a mistake was made but what you learned and how you grew from that situation.

Be Intentional Being deliberate with every decision you make lessens the potential for stumbling in the first place.

Lose the Unicorn Mentality Stop measuring your success against an unrealistic backdrop and start creating attainable objectives that will increase your chances of following through and achieving success.

Talk to Yourself Although it may not seem like it at first, you can talk yourself into anything, and when you're feeling scared or unsure, tell yourself that you can do it and that you'll be okay.

Remember Why You Started Sometimes you’ll lose sight of why you began this adventure in the first place. Go back in time, feel that excitement again, and ask yourself, “How bad do I want it?”

The mindset we have around failure makes a difference in achieving success and the quality of that accomplishment. Failure, while it may seem counterintuitive and difficult at the moment, is actually essential for growth. Without challenges, it's impossible to learn and improve. So next time you face adversity, remember that you're one step closer to success.?
