Overcoming a Cyberattack: Lessons Learned

Overcoming a Cyberattack: Lessons Learned

Last week, Dan Lundstr?m, Director of IT, Axis, shared their story about a severe cyber-attack they were the victims of a while back. Here, is a summary of his keynote:

Why did they attack?

We were not targeted specifically. They chose the same modus operandi as they always use. We were not attacked because we are we, but because we are a large organization of the same sort that they typically attack.

Who were they?

We are not sure. We have a good idea of whom but cannot share that as we have no proof. ?

How did they attack?

They used social engineering and tricked an employee into giving access to the system.

They had picked the date with care as well.

What was crucial in overcoming the challenge?

We’ve got one of the world's best IT teams. This was crucial for the work following the cyberattack. Everyone was ready to work hard to handle the "crisis."

Our Axis's culture of trust and transparency, as well as our organizational structure, were the most important factors in their ability to cope so well after the attack.

Very little hierarchy and a culture of openness make it easy for everyone to immediately report what happened.

This saved us!

Your best advice?

Figure out what is worth protecting and focus on protecting that. Customer data, for example. If you have in-house resources that you can use, do so. But if you don’t, get help.

Dan Lundstrom Director of IT at Axis - Thank you for sharing!
