Overcoming Chaos: All Things English Learning

The first month of 2025 has finally come to a close. And it seems as if we are just getting started. People are finally have their feet underneath them, and they are just now beginning to consider the idea that there could be something more out there. That, perhaps, English class can be more effective, and what little time teachers have with their students can make even greater differences.

Making Class Matter

Recent changes in the administration of this country have placed many of our English learners in a difficult position. Increased anxiety, school absences, and the potential for higher dropout rates all threaten the progress of students who are already facing challenges. Now more than ever,?every minute of class matters. The skills students acquire today—especially in English and literacy—will ripple throughout the rest of their lives. As educators, we have to ensure that learning environments remain strong, supportive, and effective in helping students thrive.

New Year, New Method

If you look at the data, it’s clear: too many multilingual learners across the country struggle to make real progress in English. Some even graduate without reaching proficiency. This is not just a statistic—it’s a?call to action. The way we teach English must evolve.?2024 should be the year we break the cycle.?At AIR Language, we’re leading the way with a?new, research-backed approach?that empowers both teachers and students. Let’s rethink how we teach English learners and embrace innovation in our classrooms.

Testing Has Begun!

Whether it's?WIDA, ELPA 21, or any other state language assessment, testing season is officially underway. Given the challenges we discussed earlier, ensuring every student is tested will be harder than ever. But?there are ways to make it easier.?AIR Language?can provide 20 minutes of?independent reading time, keeping students engaged while you focus on testing.

Plus, we’ve compiled?resources?in our latest blogs (see the bottom of this newsletter) to help you?save time?and keep your class productive—even when you’re out administering the test. Every year, one of the biggest challenges isn’t just the test itself but?keeping learning going when teachers are pulled away. Let’s tackle that challenge together.

That’s why we’re taking a?pause on content creation?to actively?listen—to gather feedback and refine AIR Language based on real classroom needs. What would you like to see?
