Overcoming Challenges in FGD Bidding: A Call for Innovation and Collaboration
In the intricate landscape of business, especially within the realm of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) projects in India, various challenges often hinder progress and participation. Conversations in workshops and customer meetings frequently echo concerns about resource shortages, uncertain customer requirements, delivery schedules, and pricing complexities. These challenges are not unique to India, but addressing them is paramount to fostering growth and attracting both domestic and international bidders in the FGD bidding process.
1. Navigating Uncertainty in FGD Projects:
In FGD projects, uncertainties regarding end customers' needs and delivery timelines can be significant obstacles. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), embracing adaptability and agility in our processes is essential. Here's how we can navigate these uncertainties and foster a conducive bidding environment:
a. Flexible Pricing Models:
Offering flexible pricing structures that accommodate dynamic project timelines is key. Providing indicative prices based on variable delivery dates and clearly stating the pricing conditions can foster trust and transparency.
b. Collaborative Engineering Approach:
Engaging in a collaborative engineering approach with sub-vendors, even before the award of contracts, can streamline the process. Preliminary engineering discussions and estimation can provide a foundational understanding, aiding in cost estimation.
c. Proactive Communication:
Maintaining an open line of communication with sub-vendors and suppliers, while acknowledging the inherent uncertainties, can help align expectations and potential timelines.
2. Addressing Qualification Requirements:
The qualification criteria often present challenges for both domestic and foreign bidders, especially when limited executed FGD projects exist in India. Overcoming this hurdle requires proactive measures:
a. Collaborative Research and Development:
Encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing between domestic and foreign OEMs can bridge the experience gap. Joint research and development initiatives can help build a robust knowledge base.
b. Proven Excellence Beyond Borders:
Providing avenues for showcasing international project successes, even if not executed in India, can bolster the credentials of foreign bidders. Global success stories can inspire confidence in their capabilities.
3. Leveraging Industry Experience:
FGD projects are indeed limited in India, posing a challenge in terms of acquiring firsthand experience. However, with the right approach, we can turn this constraint into an opportunity:
a. Cross-Industry Learning:
Drawing insights from related industries and their experiences with similar technologies can enrich our understanding and enhance our readiness to tackle FGD projects.

b. Industry Conferences and Forums:
Actively participating in industry conferences and forums can facilitate knowledge exchange and provide exposure to global best practices, aiding in refining our approaches.
In conclusion, fostering innovation, embracing collaboration, and promoting transparency are key to overcoming the challenges inherent in FGD project bidding. By developing resilient strategies and creating a supportive ecosystem, we can encourage both domestic and foreign bidders to actively participate, ultimately driving progress and sustainability in the FGD sector.

1 年Good read, Ankur. Lots of insight. I find procurement policies in Govt sector (Central and State) is the main impediment to bring about flexibility in everything vendor qualifying requirements, pricing in dynamic execution time line, embracing foreign proven vendors etc. whatever you felt as remedies. Collaborative research & development is key to reducing cost challenge for which Govt should provide budgetary support.
