Overcoming the Barriers to Adopting AI in Business and NPD

Like all good things, it’s not quite so easy!
Despite the positive results achieved by leading early-adopter firms, the adoption rate for AI for new-product development (NPD) has been sluggish, especially in Western countries (it’s been faster in Asia). Why the hesitancy?
A number of fears – some real, some just perceived – exist which cause too many firms to be nervous about moving ahead. Yes, there are risks, costs, and roadblocks on the AI adoption journey, but the risk of doing nothing is even greater.
Look at what’s happened in the past when businesses sit and watch on the sidelines as new technologies come on strong!
When that tsunami wave hits, some business are like the skilled surfer – up on their surfboards, up to speed, and they ride the wave nicely – and profitably! But many firms are hit by the tsunami wave like sitting ducks on the shore – and the outcome historically has not been good.
So, it’s time to get up to speed on AI for NPD. But first, have a look at the roadblocks, barriers, and risks others have encountered before you begin your AI journey… and especially look at how other companies have managed to avert or deal with these barriers. That’s the topic of this week’s spotlight article… it’s in a top peer-reviewed journal, Research-Technology Management: “Overcoming Roadblocks to AI Adoption in Innovation”.
