Overcome Stage Fright With This 1 Simple Perspective
The stage! Oh wow!
That's a big fear for the average person isn't it?
Well guess what?
LIFE is a stage.
How does the fear of stages manifest in your life?
Give that some thought.
In any moment you are focusing on love or on fear.
You are here right now in the present moment yet you only have a limited time on earth as a human being.
YOUR EXISTENTIAL NATURE
What you are is so much more than just a human but the human existence you are currently experiencing will soon be gone so make every beautiful moment count.
Living your life like you're on a stage brings you immense presence.
When you avoid your fears on a regular basis you dull down your awareness and your spark for life dampens.
When you're on a stage, it couldn't be more obvious that you are here right now, alive and breathing.
When you make a decision to speak in front of large groups of people, you awaken the courage within. The energy of the lion is there!
To benefit from this perspective you don't actually have to get on a stage. You always have access to your imagination and you are the creator of your reality.
Even by simply visualising yourself on a stage you can become more present, focused and grateful for being alive.
ARE YOU IN THE MOMENT OR IN YOUR MIND?
The 3D reality you live in is created by your consciousness and your mind so imagination can feel just as real as actually getting on a stage when you fully immerse yourself in it.
Think of the times you've watched a film and forgotten you were sat in the cinema or in your living room. You were sucked into the imaginary and created a reality that you were firmly planted in until you realised where you actually were physically.
You felt fear when the protagonists were in danger, you felt the pain of their sadness and the excitement of their victories.
Before realising where your body was, you were in an entirely separate universe that was created from the help of your awareness and your mind.
You directed your awareness into your mind and experienced something that was not physical. You couldn't show someone your subjective experience yet it was real. Freaky right?
In these moments you've probably not been conscious that you were directing your awareness into your mind because you genuinely felt like it was real when you were fully immersed.
While you can be unaware when this is happening, you can also claim back your sovereignty by developing your awareness. Then you'll know when you're in the moment or when you're consciously deciding to go inside your mind with a defined purpose.
Can you see how much potential is there?
This can completely flip your reality on it's head and empower you to eliminate distractions, use your energy more efficiently and powerfully create the impact you want to have.
To actualise your innate potential is simple. Consistently meditate and you will become more in the moment and less in the mind.
With a dedicated practice you will develop the skill of being able to easily differentiate thoughts from immediate reality.
You will be able to realise whether you are present in the cinema or transported into the movie.
You will walk around being vividly aware that you are participating on the stage of life and that every moment counts.
Start small by dedicating 10 minutes a day to purposefully voyage through your mind.
I will outline a simple exercise at the end of this article you can start implementing today but now for a BONUS perspective...
EXCITEMENT & NERVES ARE THE SAME
Speaking on stage comes with an intensity and a nervousness but funnily enough the physical sensations are the same when you're excited.
The only difference is the way you think about the experience.
When you can remind yourself of that in times of nervousness and fear, you can think
"Oh! I can perceive this as excitement and tell my mind it's ok."
By using this simple perspective you help your mind work in your favour rather than get in the way.
It will keep you in a relaxed and empowered state of love rather than a frantic and clumsy state of fear.
When you interpret this sensation as excitement, you will naturally become curious.
Curiosity is a loyal friend of awareness.
The more curious you are, the less you listen to the ego.
The less you listen to ego, the less you think you know.
The less you think you know, the more open you are to new experiences.
The only constant in life is change and curiosity moves you in the direction of change.
You grow, you dance, you play and you contribute more to the world and in return you feel ecstasy and gratitude for being alive.
THE EXERCISE
Visualise yourself on stage and feel the sensations you evoke from this exercise.
What can you smell?
What can you hear?
What can you see?
How big is the crowd?
What are you talking to them about?
Notice sensations in your body.
Can you feel tightness? Fully feel it and allow it to be there and then simply let it go.
Soak in all that sensual information and immerse yourself within it.
Just like when you were in the cinema, immerse yourself in your own home made movie.
There will be thoughts that try to distract you and that's ok.
You will be distracted along the path of becoming more alert.
You will see a thought and move your awareness over to that and forget that you are trying to visualise yourself on stage. In order to stay consistent it is critical that you adopt a long term mindset and accept the times your mind follows irrelevant thoughts.
Don't beat yourself up about it. Celebrate the action you are taking to improve.
As soon as you realise you have followed a thought that wasn't relevant, simply let it go and immerse yourself back into the experience.
Set yourself a timer for 10 minutes each day and when the time is up give yourself a pat on the back for deliberately sticking to the slot. Just stay consistent with the practice and detach from any outcomes.
It's better to do 10 minutes every day over a long period of time than multiple hours of 1 sitting every now and again because you want to integrate this into your every day life.
In order to do that it will take some processing within your mind and time for your level of awareness to increase.
So now that you have this 1 simple perspective that Life is a Stage how does it feel?
Are you going to commit to doing this exercise?
Let me know in the comments and I would love to hear back about your experiences of implementing this daily practice into your life.
Have a beautiful present moment!
