Overcome Impostor Syndrome to Show Up on LinkedIn

Overcome Impostor Syndrome to Show Up on LinkedIn

Is Impostor Syndrome stopping you from showing up and building your presence on LinkedIn?

Welcome everyone to my inaugural Stand Out on LinkedIn and Beyond newsletter!

Delighted to be launching it on the 14th anniversary of my joining LinkedIn. Thank you for stopping by to read it.

I signed up for LinkedIn on November 30th, 2007, one year after they launched public profiles.?

Initially, I used the platform as an online resume and later to reach out to potential speakers and sponsors for my events.?

Other than that I was barely active on the platform.

But in early 2021 as I started creating my personal brand, I realized that LinkedIn has some incredible features that make it one of the best platforms for professionals to build an online presence, get visible and generate leads.?

?It quickly became my go-to social media platform.

?Kick Impostor Syndrome to the Curb and Stand Out on LinkedIn

?There are 800 million users on LinkedIn but only 1% of them publish content on a weekly basis.

Is impostor syndrome stopping you from posting, commenting, creating your presence on LinkedIn?

?Impostor syndrome is that little voice in your head that tells you are a fraud, you are not good enough, you don’t belong.?

It causes you to doubt your skills, talents, or accomplishments.

You have a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud".

?It shows up when you step out of your comfort zone or try something new.

Here are two tips to help you overcome Impostor Syndrome.

?TIP 1

Just do it.? Don't let the fear of "failure" stop you.

Is this what is stopping you from showing up, sharing your expertise, or building your network on LinkedIn?

?? You feel that you don't belong here or have the skills or expertise to create content.

?? You are afraid that you may not get many or any reactions or comments when you post initially.

?? You fear that you might reach out with a personalized note to someone you would like to connect with but they don’t respond or accept the connection request.

Instead, focus on?...

??Showing up consistently.

??Being authentic.

??Adding value through your content or by leaving relevant comments on others’ posts.

??Highlighting people in your network up by showcasing or sharing what they do or post.

??Not comparing yourself to others and how well their posts are performing or how many followers they have.

??

TIP 2

Use positive affirmations.

When I wanted to get active on LinkedIn earlier this year, impostor syndrome reared its ugly head.

The little voice in my head was telling me

? I feel like a fraud.

? I don't like the way I look or sound.

? I worry about being judged.

? I don't belong here.?

Do you experience similar thoughts when you want to show up on LinkedIn or elsewhere?

One of the simplest ways to overcome these negative thoughts is to counter them with positive affirmations.

? I feel like a fraud.

? I believe in myself.

? I don't like the way I look or sound.

? I am proud of my uniqueness.

? I worry about being judged.

? I am authentic and genuine and will not worry about what others think.

? I don't belong here.

? I deserve to be here as much as the biggest influencer on LinkedIn

? ? I don’t know what to post or what to say in a comment.

? I have expertise and skills and will focus on showcasing them and adding value that is relevant to my network.

?? No one will show up or comment.

? I stepped out of my comfort zone and that is a win for me.?

?

How using these positive affirmations has helped me?to show up on LinkedIn

? create content regularly.

? network with thought leaders, influencers and industry experts.

? go live on LinkedIn.

? publish this newsletter.

Hope these two tips help you overcome impostor syndrome. If you need more tips and exercises ....
