Overcome the Challenges of Writing a Blog as an Architect/Interior Designer

For a long time, I was thinking of writing a blog to share my work, my ideas, and my passion with the world. But I didn’t know where to start, what to write, and how to write it. I searched for tips, examples, and inspiration, but nothing seemed to fit my style and vision. I felt frustrated and discouraged.

One Tuesday evening, I realized that writing a blog post is not that different from designing a space. It’s a creative process that requires planning, research, experimentation, and refinement. It’s a way of expressing yourself and communicating with your audience. It’s a challenge, but also an opportunity.

I also realized that most architects tend to write long and complex blogs, which can lose the attention of the readers in this fast-paced world. I decided to avoid that mistake and keep my article short and simple. I used some easy techniques that helped me write my first blog (the one you are reading). I want to share these techniques with you, so you can also write your own blog posts with confidence and ease.

Know your People:

Imagine you are baking a cake for a special occasion. You want to make sure that everyone enjoys it, right? So, you need to know who your guests are and what they like. Do they prefer chocolate or carrot? Nuts or no nuts? Frosting or whipped cream? The same principle applies to writing a blog as an architect. You need to know who your target audience is and what they expect from you. Knowing your people will help you craft a blog post that will connect with them and keep them interested.

People’s Interest:

Once you know who your people are, you need to find out what they are interested in. What topics do they want to learn more about? What problems do they want to solve? What questions do they have? This is where you need to explore your ideas and passions as an architect. What are you excited to share with your readers? What are you an expert on? What are you curious about? Finding the intersection between your interests and your audience’s interests will help you choose a relevant and appealing topic for your blog post.

Talk to your guests:

After you have baked your cake and invited your guests, you don’t just leave them alone with the cake, do you? No, you stay with them, chat with them, entertain them, and make them feel welcome. The same goes for writing a blog. You need to talk to your readers in a friendly and conversational way, avoiding technical terms and jargon. Make them feel like you are having a one-on-one conversation with them, not lecturing them from a distance. You can also use humor, anecdotes, metaphors, and questions to make your writing livelier and more personal. However, don’t sacrifice professionalism for the sake of being casual. You still want to sound trustworthy and credible.

Greetings Formula:

When your guests are ready to leave, you don’t just say goodbye and close the door, do you? No, you thank them for coming, hug them, and maybe even a small gift or a slice of cake to take home. The same goes for writing a blog. You need to end your blog post with a warm and memorable farewell. You can summarize your main points, invite feedback, suggest further reading, or offer a call to action. You also need to use visual elements, such as images, videos, charts, graphs, or diagrams, to illustrate your ideas, showcase your projects, or provide examples. You can also use headings, bullet points, lists, quotes, or bold text to organize your content and emphasize the important information.

Congratulations, you have just learned how to write a blog post as an architect that will impress your readers and showcase your expertise. Writing a blog is not as hard as it seems, if you follow these simple steps: know your people, find your topic, talk to your guests, and use the greetings formula.

Remember, your blog is your cake, and you want to make it delicious and irresistible for your audience. So go ahead and start baking your next blog post, and don't forget to share it with me. I would love to hear your feedback and suggestions. Thank you for reading, and happy blogging! ??

?? How would you rate this out of 10? It's my very first attempt on my own linkedin and I poured my heart. I belong to a baker family, my ancestors and my father own a bakery and that's the motivation to give examples of baking in this article ?? Happy baking blogs!
