Overbooking is the last of United's problems.

Overbooking is the last of United's problems.

Much have been said since United's unfortunate event last Sunday. Not only have they acted in a complete misconduct behavior, but they have also reacted to the scandal with an unyielding, stubborn attitude. There are so many layers of problems regarding air transportation globally, which it becomes incredibly hard to understand how to, as a consumer group, reply to that.

Let's just remember that not long ago, United denied two women of boarding because of their dress code. Moreover, surely companies have the right to refuse services if out of policy (no matter how stupid or right these policies are), but the way that they replied to both situations tells it all about the company disregard to its consumers.

In my humble opinion, overbooking, altough legal, is unacceptable nowadays. Technology is widely available to forecast occupancy and seat mapping before boarding. Also, in this particular case, even if United were not able to predict and solved the situation by chartering a 4-seat private jet to fly from Chicago to Louisville, that would have cost them less than $7,000 (including the cost of return to the base). I am pretty sure that the money needed to try and fix this circumstance (if United ever decide to fix it) will be way more than that.

United will most likely rely on the travelers' dependency on having to fly the company's fleet to fulfill their route and price needs, but I am pretty sure that there is also a small group that will stick to their promise of never flying United again. Is this loss worth to keep the airline business practices unchanged?

Having to bump people out of flights is not exclusive to United Airlines. However, their positioning on these events is, unquestionably, their own to be claimed.

Fully agree with your view Bruno!

Well done! It was a great opportunity to me to think about this matter. Thank you for sharing your opinion Bruno. We have a lot to consider when choosing a airline company these days.
