Over a Year Later - Still No Answer

I wrote this article over a year ago. Yesterday many people were celebrating the successful of yet another Brent topsides by Allseas. A tremendous engineering achievement. Of that there can be no doubt. And much needed work for a UK decommissioning yard. But, what does it mean for the overall project in terms of reducing options for the full removal of redundant equipment and production wastes, particularly from the cells within the concrete gravity base structures. Currently, it is proposed by Shell, Exxon and the UK Government that these remain “dumped” in the sea, where they will eventually be exposed to the marine environment with little knowledge of their composition or possible effects.

The German and Netherlands Governments have formally objected to these plans submitted to OSPAR on the basis of reports commissioned from independent consultants in the UK and Denmark respectively.

STOP THIS MARINE VANDALISM FROM HAPPENING!
