OVER-CREATIVITY
Life is indeed tempting!
For those who have several gifts or have learnt different skills, you will readily understand the temptation of being everything at once.
As a book author who is skilled at graphics designing, it means the book cover can be designed without incurring extra costs. If such a person has a good knowledge of book publishing, he can also go further by monitoring the publishing and finishing of the processes and then go ahead to sell. It is safe to say if the person does not break down in doing all this, the project will be dragged longer than usual and may even result in total failure. Such is the case for every creative person, or shall I say over-creative person.
The above illustration is my own personal experience and in my case, the project crumbled and left me hanging out in the scorching sun.
"Why should I get the services of another for something I can handle easily?" is the question that may readily come to mind. Productivity is increased when man is more focused on a task than taking on several tasks. If organizations have several divisions taking on specific tasks, how much more one man who is limited in the hours he can spend at work and in brain activity per time.
My point is not to argue that acquiring many skills and having multi-talents is a disadvantage, but that taking on the challenge of putting it all to practical use simultaneously will so more harm than good. As crazy as it sounds though, there is stealthy drive that tends to push us to accomplish it all but the earlier we realized this, the better it is for us to involve others.
This is as relevant to individuals as it is to startups and entrepreneurs.
