Over 60? Read This

Truth be told, it’s not exclusively for over 60’s.

Although a few DPMers are either there, or pretty close (not that you’d know by looking at them).

But I figured it’d be a good way to capture some people’s attention cause this info that I found from an article by my friend Fiona at?Informed Health?is a must read if you want to read some things that have been shown to slow memory decline.

And if you’re not there, it’ll be worthwhile info to remember on our quest to get their in a good way.

God knows I needed to read it with the amount of head knocks I got back in the day.

Anyways, this info from a Chinese study of nearly 30000 people over a long period of time (leading to it being more believable results) found six factors that’ll help slow memory decline and reduce your risk of dementia later in life.

  1. Healthy diet
  2. Regular exercise
  3. Active social contact
  4. cognitive activity (things like playing cards etc)
  5. not smoking
  6. not drinking alcohol

Must admit they lost me on the last one, but I’m going to go with trying to minimising it. That can’t hurt.

I’m taking this out of those findings though:

Overall people with four to six healthy behaviors or two to three were almost 90% and almost 30% respectively less likely to develop dementia or mild cognitive impairment relative to those who had the least healthy habits

I’ll be happy with the 5 though.

And the active social contact is even more reinforced now don’t you think over the last year and a bit after we had it deprived by the fun police for so long.

I know that for me, it reinforced that I’d rather be out actually seeing the DPMers in person even if it means driving all over Sydney which can be like Russian Roulette some days.

And granted, none of these above factors are really ground breaking things, but the more you see these things reinforced, and proven with reliable research, the more motivating I find it at least. Maybe you too?

Hopefully that gives you some reassuring news and a friendly reminder to stay the course with your training even when it gets hard to make the commitment.

Cheers,

Daniel
