Over 50 In Job Search? Don't Make This Mistake!

A common question that my 'over 50' clients ask is...."Will my age be held against me in my job search'?
That is a very valid question. Certainly age bias exists in the hiring market place. I saw it from my former recruiting days, and now it's apparent in my career transition services practice.
Professionals over 50 years old ARE getting hired. That's a fact. So what might you be doing to sabotage your job search if you are tenured?
Ding ding ding...here's the answer from my observation....
You talk too much!
Yes. It's common. It's a 'thing'.
But it doesn't need to be that way. We understand that you have decades of great experience with many career achievements. And you want the interviewer to know all about it. But...they don't have the patience or the time to hear 'all about it'.
We want to know the cliff notes version, told to us in the CAR or STAR format. Tell the story starting out with the challenge you faced, the steps (use the Power of Three) that you took to solve the problem, and the results back to your employer.
It's that simple.
Talk less, get to the point, and stop talking when you've said enough.
Be Bold, Be Brief, Be Done.
