Newlight Technologies Secures $125M for Expansion of AirCarbon Production
Newlight Technologies Inc., a USA-based decarbonisation tech firm, recently secured $125 million in equity funding. GenZero led the round and saw contributions from Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, Charter Next Generation (CNG), a global luxury goods manufacturer, and other new and returning stakeholders.?
Newlight has signed deals with CNG to launch speciality films using AirCarbon and with OLCV to employ direct air capture (DAC) systems for sourcing carbon dioxide for AirCarbon manufacturing plants.?
Led by Mark Herrema, CEO, Newlight uses greenhouse gas to make a high-performance material called AirCarbon?, a versatile biomaterial synthesised by micro-organisms that consume greenhouse gas. Plotlogic Raises $28M in Series B for Advanced Mining Tech
Plotlogic, an Australian-based deep-tech mining innovator, has raised $28 million in a Series B funding round. Leading this investment are US venture capital entities: Galvanize Climate Solutions, co-founded by Tom Steyer and Katie Hall, and SE Ventures, an affiliate of Schneider Electric. The round also saw significant contributions from prior investors, including Innovation Endeavors, DCVC, Bentley iTwin Ventures, and GRIDS Capital. Main Sequence Ventures, representing the venture capital arm of Australia's national science agency, CSIRO, participated through its novel Main Sequence Three fund.
Plotlogic, recognised globally for excellence in ore characterisation, boasts partnerships with major industry players such as BHP, Vale, South32, and Pilbara Minerals. The company's flagship OreSense? technology, integrating advanced sensor systems with AI, offers real-time, precise ore characterisation forecasts. This groundbreaking tech empowers mining operations to enhance mineral and metal extraction efficiently.
With the recent funds, Plotlogic aims to diversify its platform's applications, amplify commercialisation efforts, and fund further R&D, primarily focusing on North American expansion. NOMAD, a US-based company under Transportable Power Systems, has been awarded a $9.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to deploy long-duration energy storage in five rural Vermont communities. In partnership with Green Mountain Power (GMP), KORE Power, and EPRI, Nomad looks to enhance energy reliability, reduce carbon emissions, and solve emergency response situations.?
KORE Power, a producer of lithium-ion battery cells, and EPRI, a prominent electric reliability research organisation, will be instrumental in the project's execution and potential national scalability.?
Having previously purchased from NOMAD, GMP will use these systems to strengthen grid resilience. This collaboration will lead to the creation of mobile energy storage using KORE Power's next-gen modules, capable of supporting about 50 homes for 10 hours each.
