OUTRAGE MARKETING: Why love in business is crucial

Equity equality and integrity in business and communication is a lifelong mission of mine.?In 2019 (maybe earlier) iOla C. Williams and I explore the impact of outrage marketing.?To me, it is one of the most insidious parts of comms.?I just cannot imagine the mentality of the human(s) who sits around a table and says ‘let's do something to traumatise people – for the sake of likes and shares.

However, iOla C. Williams and Nicola M. , explore the relationship between love in business and the importance of success, specifically in contrast to outrage marketing.

For reference - outrage marketing involves intentionally generating controversy or outrage to attract attention to a brand or product.

While this tactic may create short-term buzz, it often lacks a genuine connection with customers and can lead to negative long-term consequences. In contrast, prioritizing love in business can be crucial to achieving lasting success for several reasons:

  • Authentic Relationships: Love in business focuses on building authentic and meaningful relationships with customers. By genuinely caring about their needs, preferences, and concerns, businesses can establish trust, loyalty, and a strong emotional connection. These deeper relationships lead to repeat business, positive word-of-mouth referrals, and a loyal customer base.

  • Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty: When businesses prioritise love and genuinely invest in their customers' well-being, it results in increased customer satisfaction. Customers feel valued and appreciated, leading to higher levels of loyalty and retention. Satisfied customers are also more likely to become brand advocates, spreading positive word-of-mouth and driving new customer acquisition.

  • Positive Brand Image and Reputation: Love in business helps shape a positive brand image and reputation. When a business demonstrates empathy, compassion, and ethical practices, it fosters trust among customers, employees, and the wider community. A reputation for genuinely caring about people and making a positive impact can attract more customers, differentiate the brand from competitors, and contribute to long-term success.

  • Employee Engagement and Productivity: Love in business extends to employees as well. By fostering a supportive and caring work environment, businesses can increase employee engagement, job satisfaction, and productivity. When employees feel valued, respected, and loved, they are more likely to be motivated, committed, and dedicated to the organization's success.

  • Sustainable Growth and Resilience: Love in business promotes sustainable growth and resilience. By prioritizing long-term relationships over short-term gains, businesses can weather challenges and adapt to changing market conditions. Customers and employees who have experienced genuine care are more likely to remain loyal and support the business during difficult times.

I firmly believe that while outrage marketing may offer temporary attention, love in business provides a foundation for lasting success. By fostering authentic relationships, prioritizing customer satisfaction, nurturing a positive brand image, and creating an engaged workforce, businesses can build a sustainable and thriving enterprise.
