Outlaws and Good People

Outlaws and Good People

Welcome to Ouray, Colorado. That’s your-ray, not ooo-ray! Take phonics out and you can now say the name of the town correctly. Do you like spending time with good people?? I do. Kane Marschall, founder of Good People, launched three years ago a different approach to networking and education in the senior living space. In fact, thanks to Kane, Senior Living and John Wayne have a unique relationship. More to come on that!

The days of trade show booths appear to be fading. We are continuing to see vendor partners to the senior living and aging services industries sponsor unique social events to support relationship building across our collective spaces. Despite the increase in virtual meetings and demo calls throughout the pandemic we are seeing the return of in-person sales visits and on-boarding and thus the growing need for fostering genuine relationships.

We have beautiful bricks and mortar in senior living, but remember, we are a people first industry. Residents, their families, staff, and vendor partners. All people. The delicate discovery process navigated between sales teams and prospective residents is at the core of why we are so person centric. That critical relationship building process has trickled into every other aspect of senior living including conferences, trade shows, and sales demonstrations. This is what makes each of us love senior living.

Enter Kane Marschall. You know where Kane and I met? Good ole LinkedIn. We connected. I tagged Kane and Good People in a LinkedIn article I wrote about a once in a lifetime Dave Matthews concert on the beach in Mexico. I figured why not? My thoughts on that experience led me to believe that perhaps Kane would find my story telling of this experience to be in alignment with why he offers his Good People retreats. Guess what? Days later we were on a Zoom call getting to know one another.

Fast forward to meeting in person in the nation’s capital just a couple months later. The second you are in Kane’s presence you are at ease. Kane possesses the beautiful gift of being able to connect with anyone. Kane’s eyes emanate kindness. He asks thoughtful questions while his brain simultaneously is crafting ways to problem solve your needs, support you, or introduce you to someone who can help you. And suddenly the intent behind Good People makes complete sense.

Good People is a senior living enterprise that hosts small-scale retreats, carefully designed to enhance networking opportunities and enrich connections for each attendee. Unlike traditional "big-box" conferences, where booths are a priority and large crowds prevail, Good People retreats offer carefully planned distinctive experiences that drive long-lasting and meaningful relationships. Each Good People retreat offers opportunities for attendees to renew, refresh, and connect with owners and operators on more substantive levels. Held twice per year, each event brings together thought leaders, innovators, and decision makers who are passionate about caring for older adults; bringing innovation to senior living; and ensuring relationship-rich environments for both residents and staff. Knowledge-sharing, networking, and educational opportunities are complimented with unique recreational excursions woven throughout each day's events.

The beauty and the surrounding area will leave you speechless at times.

Four-wheeling up mountain trails will release your adrenaline.

Sleeping with mountain fresh air will provide an incredible night’s sleep.

Morning coffee combined with breath taking views will memorialize your visit.

Combine that with making new friends, learning innovations, and challenging the status quo and you have just experienced a Good People retreat.

Put it simply….Good People retreats will impact you, even change you.

So, wait, you are probably still wondering how John Wayne fits into all this. Kane’s partner in life, love, and entrepreneurship is his amazing and beautiful wife Alison. Ali, as her friends call her, owns The Outlaw in Ouray, CO. A memorable steakhouse in the center of town known for their crab legs. Yes, you read that correctly! Ali and her friends, family, and Outlaw team have welcomed senior living executives for three years now. The Outlaw is also home to locals, repeat summer visitors, and John Wayne and his hat! You can even try the hat on!

The Outlaw is the central hub for Good People. This statement resonates on many levels, from the obvious to much deeper. Yes, Good People will break bread at The Outlaw. Good People will also connect with others at The Outlaw. Share memories. Take pictures. Appreciate the personalized shingles across the walls. Because when you combine Good People and The Outlaw something magical occurs and you walk away knowing that when you head back to your professional and personal commitments you have memories and relationships that will support you for much time to come.

Come join the Good People family. Try on Mr. Wayne’s hat, stand next to a mountain waterfall, share laughs, shop in town, learn, make new friends, laugh some more cause one cocktail goes further at high altitude (my inner Outlaw coming out)! I am beyond grateful to have met Kane and Ali and for them to have given me a Good People experience. In fact, it was more. It was Incredible. Lifechanging. Bucket List. I want each of you to have this experience as well.

?? that you met through LinkedIn. Great networking is about relationships not just about touting services and products.
