Layering is all about combining different garments to create a cohesive and chic look. The secret to outfit layering in Autumn/Winter is to mix different textures, fabrics, and patterns.
Here are some tips to help you achieve a stylish and modern outfit:
1. Start with a base layer, such as a fitted boatneck lightweight long-sleeve top or a thin Merino wool turtleneck (like mine here), and pair it with pants or a skirt that fits you well. Try monochromatic or tonal layers for an on-trend look. This will serve as the foundation for your layered look.
2. Then layer additional pieces on top, such as a white shirt to add contrast. But don’t go for a tighter fit to avoid any lumping and fabric gathering underneath. Instead, opt for an oversized or looser-fitting shirt over your base layer to allow more movement and comfort.
3. If you like patterns, then opt for some classic ones, such as thin stripes (as in my example), to achieve a slick and modern vibe.
4. Next, accessories are key when styling your clothes, so make sure to add a belt to complete your outfit. I am wearing a black belt here for a chic and easy look, which perfectly matches my black leather heeled ankle boots you saw at the beginning.
5. And of course, add a chic clutch bag for a touch of glam. Perfect for an evening, dinner, or a date.
This chic outfit with a skirt would be great for an event or an evening look. But you can make it more work-appropriate by swapping a maxi skirt for a black pair of pants and your clutch for an everyday work tote bag. And voilà, you are ready to go!
