Outcome measures in physiotherapy

A friend of mine, Craig Kramer with whom I shared my initial thoughts about the need to measure outcomes in medicine and objectivize data, submitted this video from Mike Reynolds (https://mikereinold.com/outcome-measures-in-physical-therapy/). I am glad this is becoming a hot topic, and I am glad communities such as this are sharing their habits and thoughts about the importance of measuring the outcomes in Physical therapy. As an engineer, data and numbers are the base of every decision, and I admit I struggled a lot in approaching the ortho space. I was surprised to realize how inconsistent was the way data were collected, and most interestingly, I realized there was a need to standardize not only what has to be measured but also how this information is used. In a constant effort to improve techniques and devices, we still needed the start of every scientific correlation: the baseline. Artificial intelligence is becoming more popular every day, and we think about it in every single area of our daily living, and medicine is not an exception. Artificial intelligence starts from statistical thinking, which has to do with the design of an experiment. Therefore we need to set rules to understand the data and filter the information. A brilliant person I know for a while, Prof. Fabio Catani , used to tell me: "keep in mind, garbage in, garbage out!". This was the start of everything when we figured out the orthopedic word standardizing measurements, consistently correlating outcomes, and measuring the patients' evolution. Several years have passed since these initial thoughts (it was 2015...), and I collected many experiences, and I can confirm this is the direction to go. The advantages are endless, and data become a non-part of a single person's experience but the new driver of knowledge. #Showmotion is the result of this process. A new era has started. https://alyvemedical.com/products/showmotion/ .
