Outcome Harvesting vs. Outcome Mapping

Outcome Harvesting vs. Outcome Mapping

Is Outcome Harvesting and Outcome Mapping the same thing?

No, they are not (this was not a trick question ;-))

Though I can see where the confusion somes in as they are both methodologies used in programme evaluation and planning, particularly in the context of social change and development projects.

They share a focus on understanding and facilitating change but differ in their approaches, purposes, and applications. See the table below for an overview of on the key differences.

Join the upcoming workshop on Outcome Harvesting (OH), where my guest Conny Hoitink will explain more on what OH is and how you use it. FULL is FULL so hurry to register now. ????Secure your spot here: https://lnkd.in/e4RHZq_w ??

Thanks Ann-Murray Brown ???????? for helping dispell confusion about Outcome Mapping and Harvesting! I had the chance to help write a brief on the common concepts, differences and uses of the two methods with other OM community stewards and the OH community faciliators. Our analysis overlaps with yours but also emphasises aspects differently: Common features: ?? Actor centred. The focus is on people / organisations etc ?? Outcomes defined as behaviour changes influenced by an intervention. ?? Contribution not sole attribution. ?? Inspired by Utilization Focused Evaluation.? How they differ: ?? Purpose: use OM for planning, monitoring and evaluation; OH is for monitoring and evaluation, not planning. ?? Frameworks for assessing progress. OH can be used with any results framework. OM is used to define and reflect on progress towards desired behaviour changes. ?? Requirements for recording outcomes: Unlike OM, OH has specific requirements for documenting outcomes. ?? Direct and indirect outcomes. OM is focused on direct outcomes, OH is also concerned with outcomes that a programme has influenced indirectly. https://www.outcomemapping.ca/resource/outcome-mapping-and-outcome-harvesting-common-concepts-differences-and-uses

Outcome harvesting-apply in an complex situation, and also in an evaluation approach which evaluators can formulate, analysis, verify and interpretation of outcomes.useful when outcomes, inputs, outputs are not specifient or measured at the time of planning an interventions. Outcome Mapping-is design to be used during planning after/during implementation of project.
