Out with Toner. In with Treatment Pads.

Out with Toner. In with Treatment Pads.

Originally toners were developed out of a necessity to thoroughly cleanse the skin after the existing manufactured harsh soaps of the day left a residue on the surface of the skin, and to allow the topical application of follow up treatments for moisturization and anti-aging therapies to be effective. Toners served a necessary purpose. Manufacturers simply did not create the quality of facial cleansers we have today.

As better cleansers were developed, the need for toners was negated. And the concept of double-cleansing? Well, that is one more piece of information we can thank the University of Tik Tok for falsely educating the consumer (aka our patients) as well as unnecessarily increasing the average cost of, and the length of time needed, to carry out a skincare regimen.

A good cleanser twice daily begins the start of every good skincare protocol. The follow up to this is what is known as the treatment step utilizing alpha hydroxy/beta hydroxy acid. ZO SkinHealth has simplified the treatment step of the process by creating what is known as treatment pads in the ZO Getting Skin Ready protocol.

The Complexion Renewal Pads and the Oil Control Pads contain similar ingredients, but are designed for different skin types. Both treatment pads contain salicylic and glycolic acids, but the Complexion Renewal Pads contain a proprietary botanical blend while the Oil Control Pads contain witch hazel. These easy-to-use pads, not technically considered toners, are applied twice daily after cleansing for skin preparation of additional products in the ZO line.

Benefits of the treatment pads by ZO SkinHealth are numerous, including gentle exfoliation of the epidermis (the top-most layer of the skin), unclogging of the pores, minimization of the size of the pores, anti-oxidation benefits to the skin cells, as well as hydration to those same cells.

Consumers jump at the concept of a treatment pad. In fact, patients are so eager to use treatment pads as part of their daily regimen that each one should be gently reminded they are not be used in lieu of twice daily cleansing. Quite convenient, especially in the acne prone or younger population, it is tempting to believe this could be “twice and done” but all things work together for a clear and beautiful complexion.

As ZO SkinHealth correctly proclaims, the complexion pads are only one component to the Getting Skin Ready protocol.
