Our year in review

In a year marked by escalating global conflicts and humanitarian crises, our teams worked tirelessly to unlock opportunities for peace, stability and social unity for communities in some of the world’s most challenging contexts.??

In 2024, we:?

• Engaged 400+ voices during our 18-month research on localisation in peacebuilding across four countries – Kenya, Lebanon, Rwanda and Syria.??

• Supported participatory peace processes and enabled the signature of peace agreements between four communities in Nigeria that have been in a decades-long conflict over natural resources.?

• Continued advocating for conflict-sensitive climate finance that addresses the needs of most vulnerable communities at COP29 and contributed to the new Common Principles for Effective Climate Finance and Action for Relief, Recovery, and Peace, which 50+ governments and organisations have already endorsed.?

• Launched our new paper with lessons learned about the benefits of integrating peacebuilding with climate action based on our work in Kenya and Nigeria.?

• Opened new safe spaces for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in Nigeria and worked with local partners to ensure increased access to justice for women, youth and other marginalised groups.?

• Continued enabling healing and reconciliation between communities in Rwanda 30 years after the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and providing them with mental health and psychosocial support.?

• Kept engaging in the Sahel and outlined tangible actions for building sustainable peace in the region.??

• Continued training local women mediators in Lebanon and leveraged their support networks which have proven indispensable in emergency response when the war broke out.?

• Supported businesses, governments and civil society in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia in developing national plans on business and human rights and addressing local communities’ grievances.?

• Ensured mining is safer and fairer for local communities in eastern DR Congo and does not fuel conflict by improving how the sector is governed and minerals are sourced.??

• Further expanded and strengthened our conflict sensitivity hubs in the DRC and Honduras.?

• Applied our unique methodology within our Living with Dignity project in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to support women and their families in addressing gender-based violence and improving their economic autonomy and mental well-being.?

• Spoke at multiple events and conferences, making the case for peacebuilding in an increasingly unstable and unpredictable world.?
