Our year in review

Our year in review

As we approach the end of the second term of the academic year, we want to thank you for supporting the University of Sunderland and our students so far this year and highlight some opportunities to work with us over the coming months.

Reflecting on our first business exchange and networking afternoon

It was great to see so many business and community partners taking time out of their schedules to be with us and supporting our work and students at the University of Sunderland at our first Business Exchange and Networking Afternoon last month. Extended thanks to our panel, who shared their experiences of past and present engagement across many of our teams and services with such clarity.?

Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Sunderland speaking at the event.
“We were immensely encouraged to be joined by so many businesses and community organisations who share our commitment to develop the future employability and enterprise skills of our students.?We look forward to building on those partnerships in order to unlock exciting collaborative opportunities”

Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Sunderland.

Innovation Placements

Since the event, our Innovation Placement Scheme has successfully launched. Part of the collaborative Sunderland Innovate and Grow (SIG) project and funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), Innovation Placements aim to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to gain a paid placement or similar internship experience, lasting between 100 hours to 8 weeks. Students will work within eligible organisations to support the development of a new-to-firm product, process or service whilst gaining exposure to the workplace.

Placement Years

Our students can complete a Placement Year as part of their Undergraduate Degree at the University of Sunderland; many of which begin between June and September. The Placement Year forms an assessed part of the student’s degree programme and typically lasts for 48 weeks. Now is an optimal time to advertise placement and industry years.

We want your thoughts on international recruitment

The North East universities are working together to understand more about international graduate recruitment in our region. With around 32,000 international students registered across our 5 universities annually, international graduates make up a significant proportion of our regional talent pool.

As an organisation that employs locally and benefits from graduate talent, we’re interested in your thoughts on recruiting international graduates, some of whom require sponsorship. We are hoping you’d be able to help us by answering the following questions.
