Thought Leadership

Cause UK is experienced in pitching and writing op-eds for regional, sector and national media.

Examples include:

-??????? Launching the Great Ouse Rivers Trust to media (in June 2023). With a tight budget, we drafted a launch release and put the new trust’s chairman forward setting up interviews with the environment correspondent on inews, BBC Beds, Herts & Bucks, BBC Cambridgeshire, ITV East Anglia, and the Environmental Journal. This achieved strong national, regional and sector news coverage. Cision’s coverage summary for the week-long campaign showed a total reach of 74.7M; the BBC News online article alone had a reach of 24,207,801. The client said: “We're definitely on the map now!”

-??????? Cause UK has also ghost-written opinion pieces for the Deputy CEO and CEO of QED Foundation (Adeeba Malik CBE and Mohammed Ali OBE), primarily for the Yorkshire Post and Asian media, as well as Letters to the Editor in publications including the Guardian and Telegraph.

-??????? We positioned our client Melvin Besbrode (of Besbrode Pianos) on BBC The One Show with Theo Paphitis as a thought leader in his sector, exploring issues around Brexit and exporting pianos to China.? We also achieved coverage in China Daily, one of the most read newspapers in the world.

-??????? We pitched Nidderdale AONB’s new tree-planting software to Channel 4 News, who came to film an in-depth interview on the dangers of planting trees (on peat) and importance of planting in the right areas, placing the AONB as leaders in their sector.

-??????? We secured regional and national news for Professor Lord Robert Winston, Chair of the London based Genesis Research Trust, about the psychological and sociological impact on couples of fertility treatment, including features/ interviews on Channel 5 News, GMTV, and a first-person piece in The Metro.

Relevant client work

Key Fund

Matt Smith CEO of Key Fund with the then Arts Minister Michael Ellis

One of Cause UK’s first - and our longest-standing client - Key Fund provide blended loans/grants to social entrepreneurs/ community businesses across the North and the Midlands. 80% of investments are in organisations that are in the top 30% most deprived on the indices of multiple deprivation. Over 20 years, Key Fund has invested £55M supporting 2,000+ organisations.

Over the years we’ve written many thought leadership pieces/blogs for its CEO, drafted award applications for the organisation and its clients (as well as helped host/promote its own awards night), managed broadcast, and print profiles of its inspiring success stories, and supported its website/branding and internal communications work.

We write their annual Social Impact report (telling the human stories behind the finance). The report is sent to key stakeholders and influencers in government, business, and finance as collateral to attract new revenue streams – in recent years they’ve secured new income from government and Big Lottery.

We have helped launched bespoke funds, such as the Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund, which secured BBC/ITV regional broadcast, radio, and print.

We help Key Fund:

-??????? By writing winning award entries for five years for the Citi Awards. Our entries have helped secure multiple Citi awards for its clients, including the Economic Impact Award (winning £20k for the enterprise), and associated PR.

-??????? By writing their annual social impact report.

-??????? Communicating emotive success stories to key stakeholders in government and the social enterprise sector.

-??????? Supporting thought leadership and opinion.

“We have worked with them for a number of years, on a number of different projects, but predominantly they have supported with PR, writing copy, and running events.? Our experience is wholly positive and they really helped us to build a national profile (something that we had previously really struggled with), which helped us to secure awards, attract new clients, bring in different investors and really move on to a new level.? I’d recommend them without hesitation.” – Matt Smith, CEO, Key Fund

Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership

The Summit Project

Cause UK were tasked with promoting the Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership and its diverse portfolio of projects. The Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership has brought together 14 projects to celebrate and engage people in the landscape.

PR highlights include:

-??????? Pitching and co-ordinating an exclusive story with The Guardian for their work with the Pendle Radicals to reclaim a working-class heroine.

-??????? Raising awareness of its peat conservation work, creating films with the Press Association, and positioning it on the national news agenda during COP26, with Gethin Jones tasting a special peat pie recipe live on air on BBC This Morning.

Our Coverage book for the Pendle project PR activity (which excludes broadcast reach), showed a 1.98B online readership.

QED Foundation

Yorkshire Asian Young Achievers 2022

Adeeba Malik, Deputy CEO of QED, with Richard Dunn at the In the Rings with Ali exhibition

We have worked with QED for many years, alongside bespoke support for the profile of its Deputy CEO, Adeeba Malik. We are currently managing and promoting their annual Yorkshire Asian Young Achiever Awards, hosted in November 2023.

The charity based in Bradford works to improve the social and economic position of disadvantaged communities, in partnership with public, private, and civil society organisations.

Cause UK has delivered a range of services, showcasing their educational and integration work through case studies and media work, and delivering opinion and thought leaders to address issues around integration and discrimination.

We have ghost written opinion/ thought leader pieces for QED and Adeeba, primarily for the Yorkshire Post, as well as Letters to the Editor in publications including the Guardian and Telegraph.

Over the years, Cause UK has written newsletters for stakeholders, and emotional case studies to support bids and news stories, alongside overseeing a website re-design and providing web copy.

In the early days of our work with QED, we promoted a major photographic exhibition at the National Media Museum, celebrating successful Asian role models.

Later, we pulled together another photo exhibition, In the Rings with Ali – bringing a major retrospective of art works celebrating Muhammad Ali featuring world-renowned photographers. The launch featured Richard Dunn, who fought Ali at the 1976 World Heavyweight championship, and Bradford Police and College Boxing Academy. Ali’s brother, Rahaman, flew over from the States to do BBC Breakfast and support the launch. The event celebrated Ali’s inspirational philosophies, humanitarian work, and message around social justice and peace while raising funds for charity.

“I have worked closely with Cause UK for many years now. They understand our sector, they understand the media, they understand QED, and they understand me. It’s rare to have that synergy, but they are truly committed. The journalistic aspect of their media work has been invaluable. …I have no hesitation recommending Cause UK, in fact, I’d urge you to contact them.”? - Adeeba Malik CBE, Deputy CEO of QED Foundation

Riverside Housing

Marco Pierre White supporting Riverside Housing's work with veterans

For five years, we represented the housing association, Riverside, with its head office in Liverpool, covering schemes operating in diverse geographical areas from Yorkshire to Hampshire. Operating across 160 local authorities, housing 90,000+ people, we built relationships with scheme leaders across the country to identify and tell their stories.

We provided nationwide PR services, wrote copy for their website, interviewed case studies, designed, and curated national and regional press campaigns, social media, and films and wrote copy for newsletters and brochures.

?

We championed national media weeks such as ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’ and asked the Sewing Soldier, the star of the BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee, to give inspirational talks within housing support schemes at Aldershot and Catterick.

?

One of our biggest campaigns was supporting its work with veterans, as they were keen to attract further investment and government support for its schemes. We liaised with Walking with the Wounded to generate coverage on ITN News when the team visited various housing support schemes on-route when they walked across Britain. We helped organise a celebrity concert in aid of veterans, starring Gary Barlow, raising over £60k for charity.

?

Cause UK also set up a bespoke social enterprise for one of its supported schemes at Catterick Garrison for veterans at risk of homelessness, the Veterans’ Artisan Bakery. High profile media around this included bespoke features on BBC R4, as well as profile on primetime TV via celebrity patron, Rosemary Shrager; Cause UK secured celebrity support for various media campaigns with Riverside, including Marco Pierre White, Rosemary Shrager, and Brian Blessed, as well as engaging MPs and the Deputy Prime Minister (Nick Clegg, at the time).

?

“They helped put our services on the national map, positioning us as leaders in the field.”? -Susan Littlemore, then Head of Marketing’
