Our wishes for a better seed testing...
At the ISTA - International Seed Testing Association meeting in Cambridge, Gillian Musgrove of SASA in Scotland was asked what we would like to see in seed testing in the future. The questions were asked by Madeleine Baerg from Seed World Group and it was a good approach - she asked us what would we do in seed testing if we had a magic wand & encouraged us to think out of the box. One wish would be better recognition and appreciation of the highly specialised work that analysts do. It is a long and intensive training to become a seed sampler and analyst - the value of this should be recognised!
The other wish you would be that laboratories get more support for the training of new staff. This is mainly done in-house, and externally with ISTA workshops. Easy access to training material and harmonised training would be a wish for the future!
Our wishes are not so extraordinary, but still sometimes not easy to put into practice. Let's work on a better version of the seed testing world.
