Our why...

Simon Sinek in his book Start with Why begins with a very basic question: Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential and more profitable then others? The answer lies in their why. "People don't buy WHAT you do; they buy WHY you do it", says Sinek. Our goal at SomethingNew is to define our why so that our team and our clients understand what gets us jumping out of bed each day. We think this is one way to share our why.

Our Clients

Providing our clients with a unique and exceptional experience is central to what we believe our purpose is. We strongly believe that people make a company great. It's not your technology or your products, it always boils down to the quality of your people. This gives us a tremendous responsibility, one we take very seriously, as our clients talent acquisition partner. The impact that the sales and marketing leaders and others that we place can have can literally make or break an organization. We work with many Inc. 5000 companies and while we can never take all the credit for their impressive success it is extremely gratifying to see our clients exponential growth that leads to new jobs and economic stimulation. We like to see the fruits of our labor so while we do work with Fortune 500 clients the satisfaction we get from working with companies with 10-1000 employees is far greater. The impact is simply far more significant with smaller companies and we thrive on the pressure to hand pick the people who will really move the needle for them.

Our Candidates

The remarkable candidates we work with are the second part of our why. Someone's job affects their finances, family, health, relationships, sense of fulfillment and on and on. We view our role as a sacred trust and with that to always keep in mind the influence that a job has on someone's life. Our job is to be transparent in presenting each opportunity. Keeping it real and realistic (especially when it comes to compensation and culture) ensures that no square pegs are going to be smashed into round holes and ultimately gives our candidates the opportunity to make the most informed decision they can. In this way we really are changing lives in a very real and tangible way and that's exciting!

Giving Back

All of this leads to our big why. When we do an exceptional job for our clients and our candidates we make money. Our financial success allows us to give back which is one of the core values that drives us each and every day. Do we want to make a good living for ourselves and our families? The answer is hell ya but it's bigger than that. From day one and penny one we have given back through what we call SomethingGood. Through SomethingGood we support several charitable organizations including Elevate New York, run by Kevin Singleton and Keep on Playing, run by Marnie Schneider. In addition, we do the majority of our work in large cities across the country where the homeless populations are staggering. We put together SomethingGood bags filled with food and toiletries to help those who are struggling. Our goal is to not simply handing them out as we walk by, but to stop to ask their name, shake their hands and engage in a conversation. We need to work our asses off in our job as talent acquisition partners to be able to pay for these things that bring meaning and hope to so many people and reward us I think, sometimes as much as it helps them.

So these three things are our why and by sharing them publicly and talking about them internally we reinforce our why even more. What we do and how we do it sometimes is more visible and gets more attention, but why we do it is what matters most. I would encourage everyone to share their why within their organization and externally because when you have the inevitable crappy day you'll heal quickly because you know your why.
