Speaking of sustainability, have you checked out our new video in which Citizen Journalist Raghavendra Pachhapur explains why all lake groups in Bengaluru should conduct biodiversity surveys?

Raghavendra, who is a passionate lake conservationist, uses the example of a? biodiversity survey of a lake in South Bengaluru to make his case. If you are looking for some guidance on how to protect and conserve the ecology around blue-green spaces in your neighbourhood, do watch and share this short video and subscribe to our channel today:

At our Chennai datajam looking at heat impact in the city, 32 participants formed teams to look closely at six wards using satellite data, both current as well as historic, to understand how the city of Chennai has changed in the last 10 years. They analysed how these changes are manifest today in terms of built-up area, green cover and how that has driven heat stress in the city.

On October 1st, we had a very engaging and constructive conversation with civic practitioners and activists in Mumbai: Pamela Cheema, an active member of the Powai ALM; Vedant Mhatre, walkability expert who has done significant work around pedestrianisation in the city, and Doel Jaikishen Manager, Communications, at the non-profit development organisation Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA).

In the chat with our editors and community anchors, some of the most prominent issues that came up were the need for more buses in the city; the importance of visual and immersive experiences to engage the youth in civic discourse; the state of waste management in Mumbai today. Over the coming weeks, we will explore these further through reportage, data and community engagement.

To end the week, of course, we share some of our best stories on Citizen Matters. They include a deep dive into redress mechanisms for sexual harassment in the unorganised sector; an interview with a cyber psychologist on how to deal with the trauma of image-based cyber crime; an analysis of the latest proposed decongestion scheme in Mumbai - the pod taxi in BKC, and more.
