Following a bustling and festive April in Thailand, one might anticipate a decrease in the number of job listings for the month. However, despite experiencing a 7.5% decrease in new job listings, the Thailand job market remains robust.

Technology & Software remains leader amidst ongoing AI hype

We complied the trend of 3 notable industries of 2024 - Tech & Software; Hospitality and Tourism; Food and Beverage:

Job hiring dominance of highlighted industry (% of jobs listed)


Aira Insights:

Technology and Software

  1. We predicted that the hiring demand is unlikely to slowdown with CAGR of 6.95%.
  2. The trend continues to hold true as we see more jobs listed.
  3. Remain elusive for fresh graduates as only 15.6% of jobs listed are for entry level.

Hospitality and Tourism

  1. Marriott accounts of ~10% of jobs listed in the Hospitality and Tourism industry.
  2. This coincides with Marriott's aggressive strategy to expand in the Asia pacific.
  3. This industry boast the lowest barrier of entry with 42.7% of jobs listed for entry level.

Food and Beverage

  1. F&B job demand on rise for 3 months in a row, growing at an average of 20.5%.
  2. Sales and Marketing make up for the majority of F&B jobs listed at ~30%.
  3. F&B likely experiencing growth owing to the return of tourism in Thailand.

Top Job Functions like Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Business Development and Accounting all recorded growth in job listings through 2024.

Meanwhile, less popular Job Functions like Research recorded a 14% downturn in number of job listings compared to February.

Polarization of Job Function demands

  1. This indicates a trend in the Thailand job market where popular and essential job functions are gaining prominence, while less sought-after roles are seeing a further decline in popularity.

Sales

  1. Sales continues to dominate as the top 2 job functions, for 4 months in a row. Accounting for 13.5% of all jobs listed in April.
  2. No. of jobs listed slowly increasing at ~3.9% per month in 2024.
  3. By far the most versatile skillset - Sought after by 22.5% of companies spanning across 45% of industries with job listings in April.

Marketing

  1. Similar growing trend observed for Marketing: Increasing by ~3.5% per month in 2024.

Aira Insights:

April saw Marriott reclaim the spot as the top hiring company. Here are some reasons why:

  1. From March 2024, Visa exemption are in place for tourists from China, providing second wind for the tourism sector in Thailand.
  2. The Thailand economy also saw growth in the service sector, indirectly benefiting Marriott.
  3. Coincides with the aggressive expansion of Marriott into Asia Pacific.
  4. Mentioned in our February edition of Aira Insights: "Marriott International plans to build more than 36 hotels and executive apartments in Thailand over the next four to five years, creating more than 7,000 jobs.".

Others

  • HR Recruitment companies remain active, particularly PERSOLKELLY HR.
  • Interest in F&B in April, with several notable companies ramping up their hiring: Swensen's, GFPT Public Company, Nestle & Thai Beverage.
