Our thoughts and Prayers are with the United States of America ????!

Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of The Gambia to Switzerland & Permanent Representative to UN Organisations at Geneva, WTO & Other International Organisations in Switzerland
Our thoughts and prayers are with the United States of America ????! A very sad day for US democracy. What is happening is chaotic and an insurrection! What an unprecedented assault on democracy, rule of law, constitutionality, and the dignity of the peoples of the United States!
Indeed, a blunt mockery on Democracy, weakening of America’s moral standing and voice of conscience whenever the world needed it and her standing as a vanguard of democratic principles. Yes, a failure of leadership at the highest-level igniting emotions fired up to feed selfish interests! It is sad to witness a disappointing showcase of evil, indiscipline, irresponsibility, indecency and a lack of respect for the will of the people expressed through the ballot box and the peaceful transfer of power and leadership!
Yes, indeed, though unprecedented, shocking, and horrible, when it’s all said and done, you can always trust the American ????People to surmount this hurdle! What is certain though is the constitution will be upheld and the resilience of the system will undoubtedly deliver victory to President Elect Joe Biden and Vice President Elect Kamala Harris. God willing, they will both be sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States of America ????!
Georgia has been flipped to Democrats ensuring their majority in the Senate paving the way for President Elect Biden to govern and provide urgent leadership to restore democracy, decency and rule of law! Truly, a historic day and I never thought I’ll witness this day! It will be sad if no lessons are learnt, registered, and reflected upon. We hope the courage and conviction will swiftly emerge to fix the loopholes in the US’ democracy leading us to this unfortunate historic situation!
We are witnessing the United States of America ????shaken to the core! Where is the United States of America Today? If this can happen in the USA ????, how about our weak and fledgling democracies across Africa and elsewhere?
As Africans and other emerging but still fragile democracies across the world, we must all pause, learn and reflect on our respective contexts and readiness to avoid ‘copycat’ politicians across weak democracies across Africa and beyond, taking a cue on this unfortunate turn of events in the USA ????! We cannot afford such insurrections and lawlessness in our weak democracies! We must collectively facilitate actions that will ensure peace, rule of law and respect for the will of the people always!
Let’s all keep hope alive! Lots of work ahead....

3 年Aptly put Dr.Kah you words echo my very sentiment regarding this situation! As an extreme optimist I believe this is could be a chance for the U.S. to make this a definitive turning point in history where we we truly become united as one under that banner of what for so long set the U.S. apart from the rest in its endeavour for peace, prosperity and democracy for all.

3 年Well said Prof. Muhammadou Kah! Unbelievable, yet could have been predicted. More should have been done to secure the US Capitol. Our hopes and prayers are that US democracy will emerge from this unfortunate event stronger; and the mending and stitching of the American political fabric will commence for the healing process to start in earnest - “... , one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
