AT OUR TABLE THIS WEEK

It was a huge week at Talent Table so we have a huge weekly newsletter - grab a cuppa and enjoy!

?? We're thrilled to announce that Canva has been awarded the prestigious title of Top Career Site for 203/4! ??

Canva is a very appealing site visually but also in how you use it.? They scored to be in the top 7 of career sites in Australia based on the data - 145+ data points across the entire career site and application process.???? Then our judges added a human lens to the results - and came together to discuss, debate and decide on teh final winner - and we all did it choosing our favourite fantasy location - because you have to have fun, right!???They evaluated, each finalist's site for its ease of use and functionality, the overall feel, the messaging and if the branding is consistent all the way through the process. It became very clear that they have taken great care in considering the end user. They have kept their messaging succinct and on brand, optimised for inclusivity, resulting in an excellent overall user experience.? There are still things that can be improved.? A lot of experiences for most websites don't maintain corporate branding when to the ATS or CRM - just keeping the one logo across different systems would be good but I think it's something we need to talk to the vendors about.? And almost everyone of us needs to look at creating WCAG compliant websites for better disability access. ? Overall, Canva is a very worthy win!??

Here's what the judges liked about Canva's Careers site:

?? Immediately feels like Canva ?? Outstanding job ads that talk to the candidate - this is what we should all be doing! ?? Fabulous use of colour, white space, and pictures - the prettiest website! ?? Extensive use of video that tells great stories ?? Easy to find jobs, job families, and a talent community to join - although the branding dropped away when joining the talent community in particular. ?? A great resource page for job seekers ?? Loved the horizontal scroll which is very unusual but would appeal to designers, product, and engineers - and was like going on an adventure but sometimes you get delightfully lost! ?? Excellent content

What is involved in our Career Website Research

Each year we research the career websites in Australia as corporate careers websites play a pivotal role in shaping the candidate's journey and attracting candidates.? It is one of the most used channels for candidates to find out about youHowever, until recently, these websites often focused on specific aspects, such as employer branding or job descriptions, rather than providing a holistic experience. Understanding this gap, our research delves deep into the intricacies of career websites in Australia, aiming to uncover what truly resonates with candidates. Our approach is comprehensive, encompassing over 145 data points across various categories to evaluate the effectiveness of corporate careers websites. These categories include usability, content, job descriptions, visual design, application process, and mobile accessibility. Each category is meticulously assessed, with questions designed to gauge the website's user-friendliness, the quality of content, the appeal of job descriptions, the aesthetics of visual design, the ease of the application process, and the accessibility on mobile devices. What sets our research apart is our commitment to transparency and fairness. Unlike traditional rankings, we do not publish lists that may inadvertently undermine organisations that rank lower. Also, we understand the limitations of quantitative research. While our data-driven approach provides a solid foundation, we acknowledge that it does not capture the entirety of the candidate experience. Therefore, our ratings serve as a guideline, with the final judgement for the award based on human interpretation. This ensures that the award truly reflects the overall candidate experience, incorporating qualitative aspects that numbers alone cannot convey. We will not publish any individual data on any organisation. Our goal is to empower organisations to enhance their careers websites, ultimately creating a more engaging and rewarding experience for candidates. Our research on corporate careers websites in Australia is a testament to our commitment to nurture, grow and develop knowledge and leadership in the Talent Acquisition, Talent and Human Resources community. By providing valuable insights and feedback, we aim to help organisations create websites that resonate with candidates, ultimately driving better recruitment outcomes. We are currently working with a PhD student in Perth who is using our data along with the data from the Netherland's to produce a thesis on career websites.? So we know we are onto a good thing! You can watch the webinar on demand by clicking the button below.??Thanks to Indeed and Teamtailor for supporting our research for 2023/4!And to our judges, Scott Allan from Talent Tech Solutions, Jeannette Borg from Your Virtual CMO and Rachel Hill from Hill Consulting.

Why is it so important that we ensure our processes are streamlined and fit for purpose in the world of AI?

Did you miss the incredible webinar we did with SmartRecruiters Chief Product Officer and Interim CEO, Rebecca Carr? You can watch it below! We talked about many things with the theme of future proofing our teams and leveraging AI. Whilst it had a recruitment focus, the messages were there for all of HR to learn. So let's take a look at how process is important for AI to learn and recommend.

In today's ever-evolving HR landscape, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force, promising increased efficiency and effectiveness in HR and talent acquisition. However, as Andrea and Rebecca underscored, the efficacy of AI in HR hinges heavily on the quality of the data it processes. It also hinges on the silos in HR working toward a common process that is understood and followed by everyone in the team.

Consistent Data

One of the most pressing challenges faced by organisations is ensuring the collection of consistent and accurate data throughout the processes. Rebecca's example of internal mobility highlights how seemingly simple processes can lead to suboptimal outcomes and hinder AI practices. Consider the scenario where an employee, John, is informally suggested for a new role during a meeting. The process that follows, from informal discussions to offer acceptance, often occurs outside the structured framework of the Applicant Tracking System (ATS). When John is eventually hired for the new role, his application is retroactively added to the ATS, potentially skewing future AI recommendations due to incomplete or inaccurate data entry. We have not captured his experience, CV or the reasons why he was successful.? There is no data for AI to use. To maximise the potential of AI in HR, organisations must establish a clean and simple baseline process and workflow. This ensures data is captured consistently and accurately, providing AI systems with the necessary information to learn and make informed recommendations. Platforms like GoFigr, an internal marketplace Australian startup, are emerging to help organisations connect the skills and aspirations of their employees with internal opportunities, further emphasising the importance of capturing and utilising data effectively.

Regulation & Compliance

Another critical aspect highlighted by Rebecca is the importance of regulation and compliance in AI usage. With the potential for bias in AI systems, organisations must ensure that their AI vendors are thoughtful in their application of AI and comply with regulations. Transparency is key, and we must ensure vendors are willing to share AI audit results with customers to ensure that the AI is beneficial and fair to all candidates and people in our organisations. AI in recruitment can only be as good as the data it reads. Organisations must focus on collecting and maintaining high-quality data throughout the hiring process, establish clean and simple workflows, and ensure compliance with regulations. By doing so, they can unlock the full potential of AI to streamline their HR and talent acquisition processes and make more informed decisions.
