Our systems are now being revamped

NAVKSHITIJ Monthly Highlights

Progress and Expansion

NAVKSHITIJ is progressing rapidly with the establishment of two new centers at Somatane and Talegaon. After a brief slowdown due to the elections, work at Asawali is now back on track. We recognize that with such rapid growth, there is a risk of overextending ourselves and potentially developing cracks. June was dedicated to consolidating our progress and implementing new systems with significant investments of time, effort, energy, and money.

Leadership and Efforts

Our managing trustee, Prof. Smita Shetty, along with Rameshwar, Kinkar, Mahendra, and Prathamesh, is working tirelessly to integrate these new systems. Our innovative events have been garnering a lot of attention, drawing interest from various quarters.

Collaborations and System Upgrades

We are collaborating with Seva Tarang Foundation to introduce a Human Resource Management System (HRMS) for robust HR policies. The Seva Tarang team is working diligently to ensure smooth implementation. Concurrently, our accounts department is being upgraded with Management Information Systems (MIS), and our branding and positioning team is working creatively to enhance NAVKSHITIJ’s visibility, resulting in increased inquiries for admissions nationwide.

External Assessment and Future Strategies

Ms. Gunavathi Fernandez, an expert with over 25 years of experience in international disability inclusive development, conducted a thorough assessment of our operations. Her encouraging report has motivated us to advance our research in need analysis and impact assessment.

Policy Revisions and Employee Benefits

We are drafting new policies for leaves, rewards, and compensation. An Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) facility has been established for employees earning under INR 20,000. We are also revising our salary increment policy. Mr. Ajay Sathe, our new advisory board member, is keenly involved in designing strategies for creating a corpus fund and/or maintenance fund. We are collaborating with a wealth management firm to secure the financial future of the wards of individuals with intellectual disabilities (IDs).

Compliance and Achievements

Last week, we had a surprise visit from Samaj Kalyan officials who inspected our compliance with 90 NGO requirements. We are proud to share that we were found to be fully compliant, placing us among the few NGOs that meet these standards.

Employment Milestones

Four of our special friends employed by Raychem have successfully completed one month as trainees and received their first salaries. Kudos to them and the entire team, including Mr. Munde, Mr. Wayal, Bharat kaka from our side, and Mr. P. Iyer (Business Head) and Mr. Yogesh Patil (HR) from Raychem RPG. Meanwhile, our special friends who are not yet ready for external employment are engaged in creating a nursery and assembling parts from Mask Polymers Pvt. Ltd. at our sheltered workshop.

Transformations at NAVKSHITIJ

I recently visited NAVKSHITIJ after a ten-month gap and was struck by the air of professionalism and the positive changes in both staff and special friends. One notable transformation is that of Praful, who has transitioned from solely guarding the gate to taking on office work with a serious and dignified demeanor. This change exemplifies our goal for every person with intellectual disabilities: to find dignity and purpose in their work.
