OUR STORY STARTS WITH...
Our story starts with 2 rabbits sitting on a porch, in a small cubicle at S.A.F.F.A.R.I. rescue. Ruth, the owner of SAFFARI, was in a terrible accident and wasn’t able to take care of them or any of her other tenders. This adoption opened our eyes to the need. We came to realize that more bunny rescues were needed for the past unwanted, thrown away bunnies to have a full life. Here is where JoAnn Smerdon and myself, David Palmes created our organization out of the need for more to be done for these helpless kritters in the wild.
As soon as we saw these two rescue bunnies, we knew that they had to be rescued again. So, we brought them home with us. And that’s how our story really begins. We fell in love with them, and slowly it lead us to getting more and more bunnies that needed rescuing from Flagler Humane Society and Halifax Humane Shelter. We did our research and decided we could be those people to make the difference they needed to survive. So, January 1, 2014, KRITTERS INCORPORATED WAS BORN… July of 2014 we received our IRS acceptance letter recognizing us as a legitimate Public Charity.
And as time went on, we saw there was more of a need for a rescue for bunnies because county rescue shelters were not equipped to house these small adorable kritters. And that was the evolving of Kritters Incorporated (a not for profit 501 c 3 Public Charity) and Krittersville.
It’s been a step by step process that has led us to where we are now… [2 ? years later and gaining strength with all the kritter people who know the kritters need more than man has given them over the years. We are a small animal rescue saving the lives of many rabbits and Guinea Pigs from sure death, either from the euthanized process or being let loose to fend for themselves and other loose kritters using them for food.
We have now created a miniature KRITTERSVILLE where we are hoping to eliminate the cages and all the bunnies will live peacefully together. As of this date, we now have 24 adult female rabbits in an area approx. 12 feet X 30 feet. If they can’t be adopted, they are home for life.
With a dream to build Krittersville, an animal sanctuary for ALL animals, with a low cost vet clinic, community vegetable garden, memorial garden, campground for kids, a stopover for homeless people till they can get on their feet, food & clothes locker and they will be able to help out in KRITTERSVILLE tending to the kritters.
And…it all started because we adopted two fixed bunnies, Frick and Frack, approximately 5 years old.
