Our Story - Benchmark Industrial

BENCHMARK INDUSTRIAL is a local PNG SME and we are gearing up to becoming the weighing specialists of Papua New Guinea.

Our journey began back in 2014 when our two Founders decided to use their Technical Experience and Expertise in the Mining, Oil & Gas Industry and apply it to other industries in PNG especially the Food & Beverage Industry. What they initially observed was that, while most of the Equipment to service these industries come from overseas, the Experts that were contracted to service these equipment also came from overseas. But the thing is, the technical skills needed to Calibrate and Service these machinery was not exclusive for our friends from overseas. Much of these services can be done by local Papua New Guineas. So the problem was that, even thought there are lots of Papua New Guineans who can perform these tasks, there just wasn’t enough local SMEs ready to stand up and provide these service. And that was when our founders decide to have Benchmark registered in 2015.

The Journey and struggles to establish ourselves as an SME is pretty much the same like every other SME. We needed to raise capital as the first step and then we had to do the very things that were never taught to us in school, “How to Register and Build a Business Entity in Papua New Guinea”. And when I say build, I mean getting to know everything from A to Z like opening a Post Office Box, Minuting a Board Meeting, Minuting an Incorporators Meeting, Going to IPA and filling in the Forms, Going to IRC & Filling in the Forms, Getting a Certificate of Compliance, Opening an SME account at BSP, writing a Business Profile, Designing our Logo, Business Cards and Uniforms, Building our Website and doing Proactive sales on Social Media Platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn.

Eventually we got around to doing all of that and that is the beauty of Self Learning. And that’s how we find ourselves here now.

Initially we started off as an Engineering Consultancy but our scope was too broad and we didn’t grab much business. And business was up and down as usual for a start-up. But then our defining moment came when we were contacted by an Australian Based Frenchman who was seeking a Business Partner in PNG. He contacted our founders and a deal was made and that was when we became a weighing specialist. We began supplying scales for the French Company Precia Molen and introduced this new International Brand to the PNG Market.

We kept this partnership since 2016 until we found a new partner in early January 2019, Rice Lake & Dini Argeo. Rice Lake and Dini Argeo is the direct competitor for the Precia Molen Products. With this new partnership we are now able to supply Weighing Systems at a much lower price.

So back to Business, what is Benchmark Industrial all about?

At Benchmark Industrial, we provide Sales and Service of Weighing Systems, i.e. Weighing Equipment, Spare Parts, Software and we also provide the after sales service as well. This includes Accessories, Agriculture Scales, Balances, Bulk Material Weighing, Calibration Weights/Services, Dimensioning, Health Scales, Forklift/Pallet Scales, Instrumentation, Load Cells/Weigh Modules, Mechanical Scales, Overhead Weighing, Platform Scales, Retail Equipment and Vehicle Scale systems.

From the support of our International Partners Rice Lake & Dini Argeo and their large range of Weighing products, we are able to tap into every industry in Papua New Guinea. As a result of that, we have innovative solutions for industries such as Agriculture, Aviation, Bulk Construction, Chemical, Commercial Fishing, Energy, Food Processing, Forestry, Grocery & Food Service, Healthcare, Logistics & Transportation, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Scrap/Recycling, Washdown Products and Waste-Refuse.

As a local SME in PNG we are proud that we have found this niche and partnered with strong overseas brands and this made it possible for us to lift up our game and tap into a good number of industries in PNG. With that we are now planning to tap into the bigger Mining and Oil & Gas Industries and lead the way for other local SMEs to follow. And that is the reason why we have named ourselves Benchmark Industrial. And by way of establishing good partnerships with International Brands and making use of local technical experts, we set an example for other local SMEs to follow in establishing good international Partnerships.
