Our Second Outing

I came home feeling so defeated.

I felt like crying or even shouting but no I simply asked myself;

What are my options at this point?

Of course, giving up and getting back to my ICT solution provision was top of the list but come to think of it, losing 150k from one outing without a mentor or a guide is not too bad, at least I had a premium quality of knowledge. So why give up?

After a series of thoughts, I decided to proceed with the business now let me put all that I have learned to work.?

I got back to Panteka and met with Giwa, one of the senior collectors there who has stood in for me when Weezy and Salisu were training me. In short, he told me many places I went wrong and what I would have done better earlier. So I engaged him in a conversation to be my collector this time.

We agreed on the terms and I gave him money for 500kg to start with.

Within 2 weeks we accumulated 2tons of materials and I was already out of cash so we have to send what we have to the factory for us to have the cash to proceed.?

Remember the first vehicle we used which has the capacity of 3tons cost 55k.?

Now we have just 2tons on the ground with no cash to buy more to complete 3tons and the vehicle won't remove a dime from their charge.

I consulted Giwa who advised we try to get another vehicle.

Adamu the loader came in handy by helping us source for it.

We brought the driver to see what is on the ground and negotiated and settled for 45k.

I gave a deposit of 15k and paid the loaders 10k.?

The loading.

We scheduled that evening to load the materials so as to move before VIO and road safety get to the road (definitely not because their documents are not complete but for reasons best known to them).

I was at a friend's house that evening following up on phone.

Things were going smoothly until I heard "Oga wallahi, wanna mota bazai doka ba (oga this vehicle will not carry it)"?

I was very surprised at the call that I had to first use the red button to understand properly what they meant.?

I called back after some minutes and they meant it. When I asked how many can the vehicle take, I was told 25 out of 45 bags.?

I asked them what are the options and they said I should discuss them with the driver.

At this time I called Giwa who secretly advised that no matter what I should not take the option of turning down the deal at that point because we'll be at the losing end the 25k won't return.?

I called Adamu the loader to seek his opinion, he said I should just tell the driver to take all he can and come back for round 2. They will load it at no extra expense but I shouldn't key him know that there won't be the extra expense from my end for round 2.

So I called the driver and baba was already shouting and showing his discontentment with the whole situation then I asked him if he didn't see the materials on the ground before the negotiation.? He got more furious and hung up.

Giwa called back to tell me the driver wants the goods offloaded and the loaders are requesting he pay for off-loading do I say he should give the driver the phone.

After a long talk, we agreed on 35k.?

The delivery day

The next morning, joined the vehicle at AYA Bridge which we drove to the company at Tongan Maje and offloaded the materials.

It weighed 1350kg the company removed 12.5% as the dirty and current price was NGN85/kg.

So 1350-169= 1181x85= 100,385. I was paid NGN100,500.

Back to the driver, I eventually ended up paying him 30k.

So at the end of this transaction,? I spent 100k for stock, 13,500 for bags, 10k for loading, and 30k for logistics.? A total of NGN153,500 and got 100,500 with about 700kg materials on the ground.?

Well, not a great result but far better than the first outing.

I was quite motivated at this point to find an area of improvement.?

In the next episode, I decided to take another turn which is quite interesting.

Thank you for following Green Recycler's journey so far we will like your feedback in the comment section.
