In a lot of cultures money is a taboo subject and so is sex politics and religion but when it comes to business and leadership there are times when we have to deal with and talk about money. In fact even in your own life you have to have a relationship with money for obvious reasons and what’s interesting and annoying and fabulous all at the same time is that it’s a relationship that lasts forever. You can break up with and run away from your family and friends but you will always have some kind of a relationship with money.
It infiltrates and runs so many aspects of your life. So it’s worth getting it right.?
What does money mean to you?
To some people it means self worth. So many people believe that their own worth equals to the amount of money they make or have. Although that would be nice, it couldn’t be further from the truth. Jeff Bezos wouldn’t have as much and the lady who discovered and engineered the vaccine against Covid wouldn’t be making only $65000/year.?
To a lot of us money means freedom - free to do what you want, have what you want.?
Money can also mean feeling trapped or stuck.
Money can mean security - financial security is one thing, but thinking that money itself will make us feel secure is a dream.
Money can mean you can try to control others - an illusions but it works short term.
Money means love to some of us - and some can “express” their love only through giving money because they don’t know how else or don’t have the time to something else for the people around them.
Money means happiness to some. And it definitely does to a certain extent. It helps you stay healthy, nice places to live, good schools to go to and afford to go out to socialize. But your true inner peace and happiness or someone’s true love for you can not be bought.
“While money can't buy happiness, it certainly lets you choose your own form of misery.”?
― Groucho Marx
Money means you have the means to really live.
Money means power - It can buy influence and some power, which you can use over other people and institutions to a certain extent but there will always be a limit to it.
Money means time - we work too much for money so it could buy us time but all that time we put in to make money so it will make up for time lost, will be lost forever - we can never get time back.
Money can make you feel like you are in a competition with somebody else or with a company.
Money means you can demand respect - and it couldn’t be further from the truth.
Money means independence or dependence.
Money can evoke fear in some - too much or the lack can create panic in us for fear of consequences.
Money can create greed- it’s never enough and it becomes an obsession or addiction.
It can create envy in others toward you or in you toward others.
Making good money can create further opportunities.
“Everyone wants to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.”?
― Oprah Winfrey
It can mean so many things, it would be hard to count.?
The main thing is : What does it mean to you?
Some of that can be a conscious decision on your part and some of it you might have picked up from other people in society or somewhere even closer to you: your family, as you were growing up. Children are sensitive and they pick up on cues even more subtle than words: gestures, feelings, body language and behavior.

The next big question is: What kind of emotion or trigger or reaction or sensation does it evoke in you?
Safety, insecurity, jealousy, revenge, belonging, compassion, hostility, resentment???The list goes on and on.
Becoming absolutely neutral, not reacting emotionally to money and taking the stand that money is just money is the healthiest attitude to have. But it’s easier said than done.
“Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack imagination” Oscar Wilde
So what can you do?
You examine your way of handling earning spending saving investing money and see what reactions triggers and sensations come up for you what are your emotions around dealing with money.?
We make money decisions based on what feelings get triggered ?? in us in certain situations which gives money its emotional meaning to us and inevitably these meanings turn into our beliefs about money over time.?
If you want to find out what your beliefs are about money in order to be able to change it for the better just look at your behavior around money and observe your emotions and feelings.?
What you say you believe might be very different from what you think you believe but what really reveals what you truly believe is what you do.?
Actions speak louder than words.?
In order to change your money story for the better you have to look at it what it is, peel back the layers really deeply and explore the root feelings that lie behind, draw it out in the open and make the changes accordingly.?
Take a good look at the hidden reasons and release them as something not relevant anymore. You live a certain money story and you shape a certain relationship with it.
