On Our Radar: Gene editing
There is profound promise for treating disease by editing a patient’s individual genome. But some potential limitations on this approach involve relying on the patient’s innate DNA repair machinery to “copy and paste” into their genome (nuclease based), and incomplete penetration of the changes (such as not reaching dividing cells).
