IN OUR S T R I D E

Apart from being a full time Professional Architect and Partner at Roelof Rabe Architects, Jozanne Louw still managed to achieve an overall 8th place finish in in the mixed category of the ABSA Cape Epic 2022. This is how she achieved this in her own words:

?I believe sport strongly reinforces certain personal characteristics, things like; responsibility, courage, teamwork, mental focus and persistence, humility, commitment and self-discipline. I am graciously gifted with many talents, art and architecture has always been a counter balance for my love for competitive sport. As a family we aim to stay active, fit and healthy and?riding our bikes together?is what we enjoy most.?When I was offered a late entry on the day before the start of the race, the opportunity was to good not to take. Having only met Zander Kruger, a young man half my age with big aspirations in mountainbiking the night before, we started the 8 day event rather conservatively. The intention was to enjoy and complete each day with a smile.?Our partnership got off to a great start and Zander soon realized that were strong enough to compete for a top spot in the mixed category. By Stage 4 after finishing 5th he suggested we should aim for a podium place on Stage 5. His ambition was infectious and all I had to do was hang onto his wheel (and sometimes his shirt pocket) as we made it into Stellenbosch after 115km with the 3rd fastest time of the day.?We remained in the 8th position overall, but managed to pull off another 3rd podium spot on the final stage finishing on the Val de Vie Estate where my family and friends could share the moment with us.

To participate in ABSA Cape Epic is a huge privilege and it would not have been possible without the backing of the capable team at Roelof Rabe Argitekte who on short notice had to negotiate some deadlines and attended to my site meetings and the support of my extended family who took such good care of my two young children.
