Our purpose: Making the World a Better Home

Last Friday, as we revealed our purpose to all our employees, I felt an emotion full of responsibility.

With this purpose, Saint-Gobain claims its ambition to improve the lives of all by making the planet - our common home - a fairer, more harmonious and more sustainable place to live.

Making the world a better home: words that reveal the meaning of our work and serve as a compass in our everyday endeavors.

Our purpose is what we do concretely: we design, produce and distribute materials designed for the well-being of everyone and the future of all. With our solutions, we have a tangible impact on the life of everyone and their environment, the way they work, take care of themselves, move around.

Our purpose says what we are: a multi-local organization with the global ambition to protect our planet and invent a more sustainable future on every continent. Our purpose reveals our state of mind: we are obsessed with continuously improving and innovating. We do better every day by working hand in hand with our partners.

Our purpose recognizes that we share a common home. "Home": a fundamental need of mankind since the beginning of time. A universal and singular aspiration in every part of the globe. The harmonious interplay of material and emotional components, personal and shared experiences. Infinitely small individual homes and our infinitely vast shared home – the planet. A common home at the service of which we act every day to make it more beautiful and sustainable.

On every continent where Saint-Gobain is present, our purpose will now be rolled out locally. An appropriation that comes naturally. On the one hand because this purpose is more about formulating than defining, drawing on a history that is deeply rooted in the Group's DNA. Secondly, because it is the outcome of a collective effort: nearly 15,000 internal contributions, more than 600 workshops around the world, and external contributions from investors, associations, partners and opinion leaders. This purpose has been thought out openly, as its ambition goes far beyond Saint-Gobain. We accept both the imperious contribution of all people of good will to support a cause that transcends us, and our particular responsibility in the service of the planet.

In other words, this purpose compels us. And every day, we must go further.

Our purpose is now a call to action. It calls on us to innovate in order to meet the major challenges facing humanity: climate change, resource preservation, inclusion.
