Did you know that 65% of fourth (4th) graders in America are not reading on grade level and a prison bed is being built for them right now? To some, this is better known as the school-to-prison pipeline.
Since late October, I’ve been fortunate enough to be working in an accelerator program with Goodie Nation and the Walton Family Foundation to educate, inform and disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. Our goal is simple, we want to teach 10 million people around the world about the school-to-prison pipeline by 2020 and disrupt the system that controls it in the process.
Over the past few weeks, through countless hours of research and interviews, I’ve been fortunate enough to put together to lead a team of youth leaders and former White House staffers, to develop a campaign that we feel will derail this pipeline for good.
For those of you who know me personally, you know that I’ve always been passionate and forward thinking when it comes to projects that are bigger than myself. I’m even more determined when I see statistics that show that our school districts, educational leaders and teachers will know if a child will be on a third-grade reading level by their vocabulary at the age of three (3).
We have no time to waste.
So, I’m asking you to be a part of this journey with me. Each week we will be updating you about our progress as we develop our initiative to reach 10 million people across the world. Please like this article, share it, send your questions, leave comments, and more.
Collectively we can create the change we want to see in our communities, in our classrooms and with our children.

6 年Having taught and counseled children this age, it is even more devastating when they have no hope or direction. This project is needed to bring light on this very serious and very real pipeline.
This is a great article!

6 年Mr. Singleton, at some point within the next 6-8 months, I would like to talk to you about this subject. I am interested in writing my dissertation on the school-to-prison pipeline.
