Our Port – Our Future

Our Port – Our Future

Savannah’s port facilities and the huge numbers of containers coming through our city are major contributors supporting our economic strength. The port’s economic impact can’t be overstated, as this impacts on job creation and related services. These factors ensure that the #savannahportauthority and its services remain vital economic engines for the city and the rest of Georgia.

In this article, I’ll highlight ways that our spot as a maritime hub impacts on all our lives – including how Security Associates of Coastal Georgia (SACG) supports this success story.

Boosting Our Economy

The ports in Savannah and Brunswick are crucial to Georgia’s economic landscape. Last year, for example, they resulted in a combined $140 billion in sales – that’s 12% of Georgia’s total sales! This undeniably reveals how vital our ports are for supporting our state's economic health.

With those kinds of sales numbers, we can see a direct influence on the state’s GDP and even personal income. Looking at the state GDP for 2022, the ports contributed $59 billion, which was 9% of Georgia’s total GDP. Needless to say, these high numbers reveal the critical role the ports play for all of us.

Jobs, Jobs and More Jobs?

Port activities and services are significant drivers of employment. Directly and indirectly – and this includes the warehouse and logistics security services SACG delivers to our clients – our ports can be linked to more than 560,000 full- and part-time jobs. That's incredible!?

Across the state, this represents 11% of Georgia’s total employment. This impressive number includes associated jobs down the line, including farming, manufacturing, retail, and also SACG's security services. In other words, our ports have an impact on a wide part of our labor market.

It’s Also the Hardware?

Continuous investments in infrastructure are crucial for Savannah’s future. These investments include expanding terminal capacity, exploring and then acting on deepening our harbor, and improving rail and road connections.

It’s not enough to just receive and welcome more containers – we also need to handle the logistics around increased cargo volumes. With increased containers and warehouse needs, Savannah must cope with increased security services to safeguard property and staff. These improvements are essential to accommodate the growing demands of global trade and ensure the ports remain competitive.?

Our Savannah is Also Our Environment

Future development plans for the ports must also look at sustainability and environmental impacts. We need to grow the port’s capacity while keeping strict controls on how this growth impacts on our beautiful coast state health.

Sustainable practices are increasingly important in today’s global economy, and the ports' commitment to these practices positions them as leaders in responsible development.

Looking Ahead – Securing Our Future

Savannah’s port is more than just a point of entry and exit for manufactured goods. Our logistics hub is vital for job creation and economic health.

As SACG’s CEO, I'm also well aware of the need to scale up security and protection services, directly, on-site at the port, but also across the whole logistics network.

Looking ahead, the growth of Savannah's ports promises to bring even more opportunities for everyone in our city. Including those looking for part-time as well as full-time security work. Port services offer key opportunities for everyone in Savannah and across Georgia.

?Unless we take a moment to think about our port and its impact, we can miss what a major contributor it is to our lives.
